Author learn from CDs / no books ?

Cert21.com has a 7-cd set for MCSE WIN2k track. It doesn't come with books. Person here is asking if it's a good idea... they have no formal training on WIN2k, but does have at-work experience with WIN2k server/pro for a couple years now.

Would this CD-set for $99 be worthwhile or would it be a waste of money as more "instruction" would be needed to pass these exams ?

Thanks.

if you have experiance you just need some review for the exam. but if you get the videos with a book you should pass the test. but videos alone do not cover the whole exam.

No single source is sufficient to prepare for an MCSE exam. A good text plus videos, pratice exams, and lab work is best. The videos aren't neccessary, but I use cbtnuggets and I think they are absolutely fantastic.

IMO, I think that Books are basic & important resources for preparing for any exam. You may forget something you watched or listened to from CDs or tapes..etc. But The words you read from books can remain in your memory, you can even remember the location of this or that info in the page since you need to retreive data.

Good Luck,

For me, it's the other way round. Visual and audio are more effective for me than pure text, and more attractive too. Furthermore, I tend to fall asleep while reading.

Anyway, for exam preparation, the more sources you can get, the better. Books, videos, online resource like TechNet, whitepapers, practice exams, lab exercises, real life experience...

I agree.... MultiMedia is More attractive... and doesn't get you drowsy!

But with books, you can copy some notes to your notebook (without disturbing the media file).

I find it much easier to turn to my book as a resource for some info than turning on the PC and looking for the info. from the CD and even using the slider to get to the point!

Anyway, all together, they make a good combination!

Personally i was put off by the expensive cost of books, even though i must admit they are good as reference material.

I just passed my first exam using transcenders (which i took with me from a previous employer) and free online resources only. One of the most beneficial being this site.

I have 4 years commercial win2k experience and was comfortable with the technical side. The transcenders were good to get a feel of how the tests look/work/feel. Finally i set up a home lab, 1 server 1 client to simulate labs etc i found online and that were a bit more obscure than i would encounter at work.

This has worked for me, there is no substitute for real word hands on, although you do have to come round to M$ way of thinking for the exams.

I am currently using this set. It is a great complement to reading. Very informative preassement tests, reviews, test on ever uint, postassesments. The 210 it self has 11 chapters each with bewteen 3 and 5 units each., It also has customized tracks depending how you are doing.

It is not videos. It is self paced training so you do all the work including exercises in a simulated environment.
