To get mcsa, you need the 70-218 which is an elective for the mcse. Why though? 70-218 is not that great of a course/exam. I'd rather skip that and have some wiser electives on my mcse transcript such as exchange 2000 and ISA 2000. Opinion fellows?

it's up to you. do you want to obtain mcsa on your way to mcse? there's nothing to stop anybody from completing mcse and taking some more of the elctives as additional exams

lets say i were to do an mcsa wiht the 70-218. Then lets say, i still do 2 electives. Even though i have my mcse with my 70-218, and i take a 3rd elective, would it show up on my transcript taking the 3rd elective? For example, i take ISA 2000, ISA exchange 2000, and the 70-218 that i took for the mcsa(totalling 8 exams) including the rest of the mcse stuff. Would extra electives that i passed show up on my transcript for mcse so i can show employers?

Everything you pass shows up on your transcript.

Yes.

MCSA was created to cater for those who cannot afford to go all the way for MCSE due to financial reasons or time factor or any other reasons. For those who is aiming for MCSE, it'd be good to get MCSA on the way, wouldn't it? An extra cert, some motivation too. Not right? Furthermore, 2 certs with 7 exams and 1 cert with 7 exams, which is better?

Of course if you want to add more value to your MCSE by doing more electives, it's totally up to you. Microsoft requires at least 2 elective for MCSE. You can take more. All exams that you took and passed will be shown in the transcript.

Cheers and good luck!

It is a certification and someone want to feel the achievement of reaching MCSA...

Can't explain everything in this world.

I did 218 for my MCSA and I didn't find it a waste of an elective, what's stopping you doing the MCSE and another elective if you want. It all depends on the job you do, alot of jobs ask for MCSE not for particular electives....

originally i was thinking about a MCSA only, but then if i can't find any job, then i will work all the way to MCSE, then MCDBA, if you choose your MCSE's electives toward database, then you only require 1 extra course for you to get MCSA, MCSE, MCDBA, it sure sounds good, but i don't know the value of that.
