| When can we stop paying Bill?
What can I do with all those reference books? ... Oh!! not...
Any third party coming their version of MCSE 2003?
| freak 2003-02-17, 10:10 pm |
| the way I look at it is that since the MCSEs are not retired, there is no need to continue taking tests if you do not want to. You won't need your cert. You can still call yourself an MCSE.
If you want to keep up with the industry, you can study from free resources, not take the tests, but still have the knowledge.
As for third party companies, I own one and I think that it provides my customers with a great value proposition, not to mention an alternative to the big expensive books.
I agree with you: stop giving Bill money -- give it to me instead

sebastiaan.rothman@bhpbilliton.com
Yeah, you can complete your MCSA 2000 and then to upgrade to '2003 with one exam (70-292).
quote: Microsoft will offer two upgrade exams for people who have or intend to earn the MCSE on Windows 2000. One, 70-292, Managing and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Environment for an MCSA Certified on Windows 2000, is the same upgrade exam offered for MCSAs on Windows 2000.
I'm very busy (school, I got a job too), but I have to finish off my MCSA with 70-216 as soon as possible. Next month is going to be very hard...
| bass2k1 2003-02-18, 5:34 am |
| I am actually going to take 216 as my elective for MCSA aswell, and I sit the 218 in about 2 weeks time, and 216 in about 2 weeks after that. | |

| My Daddy's a A/C & Refridgeration Guy. Took some college and now works in a hell hole of a factory fixing all kinds stuff for... subpar pay (well its not that bad.. like 50k Canadian about 35k us). It's not my cup of tea. At least the odds of you losing a thumb through computer use is less. Personally, I'd like to keep all my fingers and toes intact.

| Oh! Freak never miss a chance to make $$$$!
Still need some new study guides and books for reference at work for backup.
God, those books are expensive again....
|
| damn right! The bottom line is that there is always a need for good quality material, and that's what I always hope to create for my students. If that makes me some money at the same time, then I say it's money well-earned | |
| luisjo 2003-02-18, 10:27 pm |
| At least Freak is not making money out of Cheat sheets, i wont like to see him in jail. So keep on it Freak, your study guides are excelent. | |
| freak 2003-02-18, 10:45 pm |
| thanks for the kind words. You're right, I have no interest in creating cheat sheets. Not only do I value my word -- I did sign the NDA, it actually means something to me -- but I see absolutely no value in cheat sheets anyway... | |
| ruscorp 2003-02-19, 10:46 am |

| that has got to be the saddest post I have ever read. You gotta be kidding, right?
If you are, good for you.
If you are not, feel free to check out the word "self dignity" in the dictionary. Then let that definition slowly sink to the bottom of your consciousness and re-think your new career...

| Sorry, joining this thread kind of late. I just got started studying for 270, which is my first MCSA test. I already have A+ and Net+ so I'm 25% there.
Obviously I'll keep going on 270, but should I try to squeeze in the Server 2000 stuff (215 and 218 were my choices) before summer?

| For those wanting a jump on studying for Windows 2003. Mastering Windows Server 2003 By Mark Minasi will be out in April.
Here's the Sybex web site.

If it is anything like his previous books, it should be a useful tool.

| Hiya Freak, hows the ccnp stuff coming along bud?
Well done Luisjo! i wish i was still doing my MCSE2000, it was fun eventhough i failed a few
| freak 2003-02-26, 10:50 am |
| Cisco studies stopped amusing me, so they took a back step. I had enough Cisco work to do all day long that I didn't feel like doing it again once I got home! | |
| Carl_Docklands 2003-02-26, 1:45 pm |
| hah! i wish i had the choice mate. I see you are working on Linux+, ergh! dont do it mate.
"put down that distro cd down NOW and slowly, step away from the computer".
|
| lol
There is more of a market for Linux skills where I work right now. Plus, I already have Cisco and MS knowledge, so this is lacking right now.
| Carl_Docklands 2003-02-26, 3:31 pm |
| Why dont you do the redhat one then mate, it looks like the one to go for from this side of the pond. | |
|
| because I will be teaching Linux+ one of these days, so I might as well have it. It is a good intro for me. | |
| thecomeons 2003-02-26, 5:30 pm |
| dave, is there anything you won't teach | |
| luisjo 2003-02-26, 5:32 pm |

Not to sound like a merc, but the only thing I won't teach is the stuff I can't get paid for. That includes Novell since it is dead in my neck of the woods
| oddduck 2003-02-26, 5:51 pm |
