Would I be wasting my time if I try to get an MCSA for 2000? I'm more of a Unix/Novell person, and haven't paid too much attention to what Microsoft is/isn't supporting. Has 2000 been slated to be scrapped already, or will it be out there for a while?

Windows 2003 Server is out. You might want to try that track. There's a new 2-test MCP out you might also want to try.

All techs should know at least a little bit about Unix/Linux and Novell. Windows 2000 uses Unix commands in its TCP/IP command line utilities. Try using NSLOOKUP and you'll see what I mean.

Considering NT is still in MANY production environments, I know 2000 will be around at least for another 4 or 5 years. Especially because 2003 is built off of the 2000 kernel (only minor enhancements from 2000).

One advantage to getting 2000 certified is you look like you have worked with Windows longer. And it only takes two exams to upgrade your cert to 2003. Then you'll have two certs.

Good luck with whichever path you choose.

Well, that's good news. I'm certified in both Unix and Novell so maybe I won't be quite as lost!!!

So basically, and what I should've asked in my original post, is that Microsoft has no immediate plans to retire the 2000 exams? Thanks again for the input!

Nope.

In fact, they let people with the NT cert keep that tag. Now you are either MCSE NT, MCSE 2000, or MCSE 2003.

Once you get the cert, you get to keep it. M$ has a list of exams it plans to retire and what dates.
