| Hi all,
Had an appraisal at work today which outlined ther training the company want me to do this year...
They are expecting me to do CCNA at a weeks intensive bootcamp(paid for), 70-210, 215 and 216 on home study, with any books bought for me, and one more Compaq / HP exam (of which I have a few!) for the API certification!
Is this feasable in a year?
How long do people normally study for MS exams before actually taking them?
I have the courseware from course no 2151 that Im reading for exam 210 at the moment.
I also have a few machines in my home lab that I can setup as 1 server and a couple of clients etc.
Will this all be enough for passing 210?
Any other books, websites recommended?
Just need my mind setting at ease I think TBH as once Ive got one under my belt then I should be ok I hope!
(And yes I know that I'll need one more after 210, 215 and 216 for MCSA but this is what I need for my Compaq certs to, and its nearly there for the MCSA!)

| HI, that's quite a load. Myself I study for about a month before taking the MS tests. I wrote 9 tests last year, 6 micro and 3 others, but I came close to burning myself out too.
I have read other folks doing the MCSE/A track in 2 months or less, so it is doable but it's a lot of work. | |

| Are they expecting you to pass them all first time, mate? If you work in an environment where you do a lot of the stuff anyway, it certainly sounds do-able.

Yes I think they would expect me to pass all these first time.
I am an IT Support engineer, but dont get to do a lot with software. Tend to work most of the time with hardware (which has always been my first love anyway!), get lots of system boards, HDDs, DAT and DLT drives etc to fix. I dont really have to look after domains per se, but do need to know my MS stuff.
Any ideas on my other questions?
Will the 2151 courseware, and playing with a server and client at home be enough for at least the first one?
Or any other books recommended etc?

I took the 2151 class...it is suppose to be a combination of 70-215 and 70-210, but it mostly focuses on 215. The class does give a good foundation, but alone (IMO) is not enough to pass the exams. Hands on is the key.
Really know your DNS and Gropu Policy stuff. My 215 exam (and 210 for that matter) focused heavily on those two things.

| Microsoft Press's books are pretty good, (I like the series entitled just MCSE) for the MS exams your not familiar with they'll give you some good labs to get started on.
Theres a few other goods one look around at Borders et al for a comprehensive one. If you can get them to go for transcender practice exams they'll help you alot to track your progress, and get you used to MS exam style.
