Hello All

I have question about MCSE certifcate and MCP certificate. Now I have passed 70-210 and 70-215 exam, and Do I need to register those MCP exam to request the MCSE certifcate? or I will receive MCSE certificate automatically if I finish all those 7 exams?
Can anyone explain to me about MCSE certifcate? I am afraid to receive 7 MCP certicate by the end of 7 exams..

Thank you

Yes, you need to register your MCP status so that Microsoft knows that you've passed 2 exams. When you finish your 7 exams, let them know that you are interested in becoming an MCSE.

You shouldn't have to register anything. Your testing center should report to MS that you have passed the exam and MS will send you a welcome kit with your MCP certificate about 6 weeks after you pass the first exam. After you pass the 7th exam, MS will send you the MCSE certificate. At least that's how it worked for me.

I agree. You only receive a certificate for a level of certification obtained.

Pass 1 MCP exam, you've obtained MCP status, you get the MCP certificate. You will not receive any more certificates until you obtain the next level of certification, and then you will recieve a certificate for that certification level. (Ex. MCSA, MCSE, MCDBA, MCSD, etc...)

Go to the MCP secured website to check your transcript, so you can see what exams you've passed and current certification level status you've obtained. Here's the link:

You are correct hoyuken

Pass the first exam - You are now an MCP and will receive your MCP certificate.
Pass the second exam - You are still an MCP.
Pass the third exam - You are still an MCP.
Pass the forth exam - Guess what? Yup, you're still and MCP.

See the pattern.......

Pass the seventh exam - You are now MCSE status and will receive your MCSE certificate. (Assuming the seven exams you have passed are exams that count towards the MCSE certification requirement, you just can't take any seven exams of your choice.)

I believe MCSE+I use to be 9 exams (7 core and 2 electives).

I am not sure if this is still a certification you can obtain because it was based around the NT4 exams and many of those are retired. Maybe someone else can chime in with some more specific information for you.

Here the link to check out if you are interested.

Hey Hoyuken,

Now that you are MCP for Windows 2000, your next step is to go for the "new" MCSA certification and that is four Microsoft exams (70-210, 70-215, 70-218 and a Micro$oft elective or two CompTIA exams A+, Network+ &/or Server+). Once you get them done Micro$oft will send you another certificate to hang on your wall.

Then you have only 3 or 4 more exams for the MCSE for Windows 2000.

The MCSE+Internet certification was for the Windows NT 4.0 track and that is not being awarded anymore , sorry.

Good point Doug. That's not a bad route to consider. The 70-218 exam counts as general elective towards the MCSE as well as being a required core exam for the MCSA.

70-210 required core for MCSA and MCSE
70-215 required core for MCSA and MCSE
70-216 general elective for MCSA, required core for MCSE
70-218 required core for MCSA, general elective for MCSE

That would get you MCSA and leave you with 3 remaining exams for MCSE (70-217, a design elective, and another general elective).

You'd be dual certified by the time you are done and still only have taken 7 exams total.

A good point by Doug that you might want to consider.

That sounds like what i want to do, and use my Network+ and A+ as the elective for the MCSA.

Is there a particular site out there (presumably MS) that details what courses are needed for which MS certification? And possibly go's over the objectives etc?

Check out these links:
For MCSA - http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...equirements.asp
For MCSE - http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...equirements.asp
For MCDBA - http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...equirements.asp
For MCAD - http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...equirements.asp
For MCSD - http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...equirements.asp

The objectives would be on a per test basis. Clicking on the exam you be interested in taking would have a "skills being measured" section that would answer those questions.
