| Hello Everyone
As far as I can remember this is my first post so please be gentle, my question is:
I passed the W2K Professional 70-210 Exam 4 weeks ago and never received an official Certificate, I contacted Microsoft and they e-mailed back saying that I would not receive one as I had to achieve MCSA, MCP or MCSE status before I can obtain a Certificate. I was under the impression that 70-210 is a Core Exam and that having achieved success in the exam I would receive an official certificate.
can anybody shed some light on the situation
M

Hmm...I think whoever from MS responded to your email is clueless to your situation. It's pretty obvious that you passing the 210 exam (BTW, congratulations!) makes you a MCP and it's even clearly stated on their website for the MCP requirement.
As long as you have your 210 exam result you're okay. If for some reason MS did not properly receive your exam result from your testing center you may have to fax them your result to get around this.
Four weeks may not be long enough to get the MCP welcome kit. I remember after I passed my first MS exam in NT Wkstn 4.0 it took 6 wks before I received my kit. You may have to be a bit more patient.
Cheers. | |

| You should recieve the cert. Call them and ask them for a link on their webpage that shows changes of rules. They can't do that to you. Fight | |

| Did you get your welcome email? You might want to start by contacting the testing center and ask them if and when they uploaded your score results to MS. Then contact MS and verify they received it. When writing to MS I have learned that you really really really need to be specific - bullet points seem to work and get their attention. It seems that if you have more than one question they stop reading after they hit the first question mark.
Congrats on your pass! | |

| Thanks who all who took the time to reply, I have e-mailed Microsoft again, in bulletin format..
When I log onto the MCP secured site the exam is shown there and the date is correct, so I assume the testing centre have done what there supposed to?
I will keep you posted..

| Hi All just got an e-mail back from Microsoft and I am extremely pissed off..
This is what they had to say, I don't know what to do?
Hello Marie,
This is in response to your e-mail regarding your MCP status. Candidates do not receive a certificate for each MCP exam they pass. Microsoft will send out one certificate per certification for the following certifications: MCP, MCP+SB, MCSA, MCSD, MCDBA, MCSE N.T. 4.0, MCSE Windows 2000 and MCT. You became an MCP after passing your first exam. You do not receive another MCP certificate every time you pass an exam. To obtain another certificate, such as MCSE, you need to pass seven exams.
The last MCP I received was on the NT 4.0 track and not W2000, therefore shouldn't I receive an MCP Certificate for passing W2K Professional?

No - as you have stated, and as the e-mail from MS states, you are already MCP status therefore you will not receive one for the W2K track.

| Good to know - I thought, even though they didn't retire the MCSE NT4, that perhaps my MCP from NT4 wkrstn is no longer valid since they retired the exam necessary to get it. MS is very confusing on this point. So when I take future exams with MS for the 2000 track should I be giving them my current MCP number from my NT4 card? And, apparently, I will also not be receiving anything from MS until I get my MCSA. Which really doesn't gel since I can't use my NT4 exam towards my MCSA right? | |

| Have you looked on the MS MCP secured site for your transcript - this will show you if you are still "certified" .... | |

do you guys actually frame/hang these certificates?
i put all my cert in a folder and stick it in my bookshelf between my books...
I dunno... the only IT cert I would ever consider for framing/display would be ccie, maybe oracle, but I am not into dba.

| No I really don't frame and hang my certs. They are all safely tucked away in the same manilla folder in my desk drawer labeled "certification" | |
|
| my god, I just took out my certificates just to remind myself what they look like and I can't believe the quality of the mcp cert...
it's printed on the cheapest, thinnest paper... my laser printer paper seem to be of higher quality...
compare it to the mcse certificate, which is printed on those hard glossy type paper the mcp cert is just sad
anyway, they all look ugly so back to the folder and out of the way they go!

Same here. I just put my certs in a folder and stash them away in a drawer. I don't need to frame and hang them on my walls to remind myself of my certs.

| #1 I got a certificate when I achieved MCP status under NT, got another when I achieved my MCSE under NT, and another when I achieved my MCSE under W2k.
#2 Yes I hang mine on my office wall. I'm an instructor teaching MS courses and it lets prospective students know that they will be recieving instruction from someone that's certified. If not for that, they'd be in a folder along with my test result printouts.

As wbafrank has mentioned, no. But you could try requesting Microsoft to send you a new set of Welcome Kit with the new logo design.
For MCP, there's no version. If you're already an MCP when you passed an NT exam few years back, and you passed a 2000 exam few days back, you're still an MCP. No difference except for another exam listed in your transcript.
As for MCSE, if you're an MCSE on NT 4, and you passed the new four cores (or 240) plus one design, you'll get MCSE 2000 as well.
Hope I'm not confusing you guys more.

| Firstly let me thank you all for taking the time to reply to my first post.. This is a great forum and an excellent source of useful information..
I have checked the MCP secured site and yes it does list the MCP's I have achieved..
So until I achieve my MCSA I guess I will have to be content with the Certificates I have..
Take Care & All the best

As I mentioned earlier, you could request for a new set of Welcome Kit which contains your certificate, lapel pin, and wallet card with the new logo design.
And good luck to you in pursuing your MCSA. |
