You Guys are probably sick of questions like this but Microsoft was not much help. How many test make up an MCP what test can I take and can you just get an MCP with out the +I. On Microsofts website it just shows all the test that are expired and does not display any one that you can take. If I take just Win 2k am I technicaly an MCP??? any links or infor would help thankx

All you have to do is pass one MS exam to become an MCP - if you go to www.microsoft.com and follow the link to certificates and training it will tell you how to become an MCP, MCSE etc.

ms cert home at microsoft.com/traincert

click microsoft certification and then microsoft certified professional @ the menu to yoru left.
click *requirement for mcp certification

I don't see how microsoft can make it any clearer, just need to know what you are looking for.

if you click on any xxx +I cert, you would notice this

Although exams are no longer available for this certification and it is no longer possible to earn the Microsoft Certified Professional + Internet (MCP+I) certification,

clearly stated that you can't get mcp +i anymore.,..

So let me get this right. Say you take the 70-210 part of the MCSE does that classify you as an MCP?? And no it's not that clear cause there is no direct listing for exams for THE MCP!!! it's that simple there just is not. Yes they do make it clear that you cannot recieve you MCP+I but is the point I stated above the case??

It really is that clear if you follow the links. They don't need a list of the exams because it is any that are not retired! Here is the text displyed at the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...equirements.asp

"Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) candidates are required to pass one current Microsoft certification exam that provides a valid and reliable measure of technical proficiency and expertise (a current exam is any that has not been retired)."

Wow I was going to ask a question very similar to this. Glad I figured someone else most likely already asked it and did a search for it. Otherwise I would have been eating alive. Ieeeeeeee

Why is everyone so rude? He asked a simple question. Maybe it wasn't clear to him - he was only asking for help and most of you turned on him like a rabid dog. Try to be nicer - how would you feel if you had been in his shoes?

Seeing responses like that makes me very ashamed that the human race has come to this. Aren't we supposed to be civilized?

Dude, don't beat yourseld up over this, it's not worth it. And as far as I am concerned, if it is a valid question for you, then please post it as it certainly is a valid question for someone else. That's why we have this forum after all...

If you pass any test in any of the premier tracks -- MCSE, MCSD, MCDBA -- you will become an MCP, regardless of what test you passed. It used to be not true in the WinNT 4.0 track, because Net Essentials did not count towards the MCP. That exam and that track are retired now, so no need to worry about them.

As for the +I, that's been retired as well, so don't worry, if you did not already have it prior to the retirement date, you can't get it anymore.

I hope this helps

The only one I see being rude while looking through the posts is the guy that started this thread. Most of the others were just trying to be helpful.. great "thanks for the help guys", eh?

"You would be suprised how many people in IT cant read or use a search engine."

Hmmm, that isn't rude? I must have missed that lesson when I took Manners 101.
