Hi, if a guy have no experiences in networking/server field, but has strong knowledges of computer and also knows how to programming, how difficult is it for him to get MCSE cert? And usually how long it's going to take to study for each exam?? is it possible to get MCSE in less than 1 year??
and which book is good for self-study?

I used Microsoft Press books, others like Sybex. I think they are all sufficient.

1 month/test

read 600 pages book.
do all exercise on a 3 computer setup.
selective reading from the book.
final exam prep.

I would imagine 1 weekend you can finish reading the book 20 hours study over the weekend. 30 pages/hour
anohter weekend to re-read if necessary.
1 weekend for exercises and you are done
1 weekend of final prep/selective reading.

I would suggest that you go ahead and pick up a book, prolly best to start with the server book (215) and try to read through it. after you are done reading thru it (all theory, no hand on yet), make a honest and accurate assessment of how much you retained, how much do you understand the concept etc and adjust your schedule. Try to set up an accurate schedule and make sure you follow through it. I think 1 month per test is more than enough but it really all depend on the person.

I don't htink its hard. I hope you have some basic concept of networking and client server model but a strong knowledge on stand alone computer should be sufficient. Lots of the stuff covered is absolute boredom like an entire section on how to put a printer online... others are pretty fun and interesting.

make ample use of www.microsoft.com/technet
check out its how to sections, search for things like DNS, Active Directory and other concept covered in the exam. If there is anything unclear from the book, use the site and search for it.

I had a development background going back several years, but very little experience with networking, and I still managed to pass the 4 core MCP exams and the design exam in 10 weeks, with no failures along the way. If I can do it, surely you can! Heck, I bought most of my core study materials at Costco (including the book I used to pass the dreaded 70-216).

The hardest thing about earning the MCSE is being able to force yourself to read bone-dry study guides cover-to-cover.
