I'm very unfamiliar with the MCSE track..I recently passed my A+, and I'm studying for my Network+ and CCNA certifications. After those certifications, I plan to go into MCSE in October. By then, will it be too late to study the 2000 MCSE exams? I also heard that "whistler" will be out, but I'm not sure when. I've talked to a few MCSE certified people, and they said that 2000 will be dropped after "whistler" has been released. I'm anyone help me, cause I don't know what to believe. Thanks in advance.!

Don't worry

MCSE W2K will be here for for another few year.

Not every company(85%) is willing to upgrade to XP or .Net until it is a MUST.

Correct me if i am wrong, but Whistler was the Codename for Windows XP, when the Beta version came out.
I do not believe, that XP will hurt the Windows 2000 Market. As a matter of Fact, i am learning, that a lot of Businesses upgrading from NT 4 to 2000 right now.
Windows 2000 will be here to stay at least another 5 Years, before .NET takes over.
.NET is the System to be worried about, not XP.

Just my 10 Cents...

Boy...the leaps and bounds of technology. Imagine the babies being born today and 20 years later we talk to them about NT4, W2K, .NET....and their response will be, "say what old man? Are you havin' flash backs or sometin'?"

To my understanding...Still unsure..Windows 2000 will be around for quite some time. From what I heard "whistler" the server side hasn't came out yet. I also was told that when it does they will keep the name whistler. Another admin told me that by Sept 2003 2000 will not be on the MCSE exam...I not too sure if its true.....

.NET is a marketing term. A .NET server is basically a windows 2000 server. THe two tracks, whenever the .NET track is live, will be complementary, as is already seen by the fact that you can take either the 210 or 270 tests for the MCSE... fear not, in other words

.Net is more than a marketing term. Its XML integration with the OS.Being able to develop and turn essential business apps into web services in a fully supported native environment is very big! Then you have the interaction with Legacy systems(host integration)...etc Inteligence on the client (any device) and the server coupled with Internet standard technology..is well huge!

Ive been to a couple MS presentations and seen my companys plans to leverage the eminent .Net framework..i have to say im impressed. Id also say that anyone involved with MS products and solutions (or looking to be involved) would be wise to look at the very rapidly approaching future of MS..it aint Windows 2000.

don't be confused between .NET from a developer's point of view, and .net from a network engineering point of view.

We are talking about the latter here when we talk about its relevance as it pertains to the MCSE track...
