| Been looking through brain-dumps for weeks and I can't seem to get the right answer for this question:
Your Windows 2000 Server computer contains four hard disks of different sizes. Each hard disk is configured as a basic disk and has a single 5-GB partition. All four disks have the amount of unpartitioned space shown in the following table:
Disk Unpartitioned Space
Disk 0 3-GB
Disk 1 4-GB
Disk 2 3-GB
Disk 3 8-GB
On each hard disk, you create a second partition that uses the remaining unpartitioned space on the disk. You create an 18-GB stripe volume that includes all four of the new partitions. Six months later, disk 1 fails. You replace it with a new hard disk, and create the necessary partitions. As quickly as possible, you need to retrieve the data that was contained on disk 1. What should you do?
A. Restore the first partition on disk 1 from the most recent tape backup. Use disk management to repair and rebuild the stripe volume.
B. Delete and re-create the stripe volume. Restore the contents of disk 1 from the most recent tape backup.
C. Restore both partitions on disk1 from the most recent tape backup.
D. Delete and re-create the stripe volume. Restore the first partition on disk 1 and then stripe volume from a recent tape backup.
Answer: ?
I would guess "D" as the best answer, but most people chose "A"... anyone else know??

| This is what happens when you look to dumps for answers. None are correct. You need to replace the drive, recreate the stipe set, and then restore from tape backup. This being a regular stripe set and not a RAID5 stripe set there is no fault tolerance so you would have to restore from tape because you would lose everything when you replace the disk and recreate the stripe set. | |

| The Dump craze is growing effortlessly more and more each day. No wonder IT people are testing future employees before they ar hired. | |

| Looks like the answer is "A" to me.
Anyone care to clarify this?
Im also alittle confused. | |

| For one the scenerio states that you create a second partition on each drive to use for the stripe set. A. says that you restore the first partition. This is not the one used by the striped volume. Also, it says nothing about it being striped with parity (raid5) so you would have to restore from backup after replacing the drive. Hope this helps. | |

| To make a striped volume , ALL THE DISKS need to be converted to DYNAMIC disks. There would be NO partitions, only volumes. That question is a crock of shit. | |

| I know I'm a little late to this thread, but it occurred to me...
(and correct me PLEASE if I'm wrong) when creating a striped volume the free space on all drives involved needs to be equal in size, therefore it couln't be an 18GB volume - only 12GB. And then there's all the other inconsistencies and impossible statements in this question...not a good one at all. No wonder you couldn't find an answer. |
