Best way to tell w2k & NT apart?

Any good ideas how make a login script which could execute one program if it's running on a W2k box and another if it's running on a NT box?

The %OS% enviroment variable is set to "Windows_NT" on both systems so that doesn't work.

I guess I could look for a file that only exist on on a w2k system or vice versa (any sugggestions to which one?) and use "if exist" but that would be my last resort.
