| Does anybody know the tweak to install Windows 2000 Server via RIS? It was editing some line in some file and setting the value to "1". I remember reading it Mark Minasi's Mastering Windows 2000 Server. Does anybody know off the top of their head or have a copy of that book to look it up?

| Thats not quite what I'm looking for. Installing Windows 2000 Server via RIS is not oficially supported by Microsoft, so their website wouldn't have that information. Guess I'll just have to buy Mark Minasi's book and look it up myself. | |

| I have found the information finally.
Deploy Windows 2000 Server with RIS
Yes, that is right. I can hear you already, "but RIS can only be used to deploy Windows 2000 Professional", you say. Below is an excerpt of Knowledge Base article Q214794 which details a method for using RIS to deploy Windows 2000 Server!
1. Copy the contents of the Windows 2000 Server I386 folder to a network share or local hard disk. This is required because an existing file must be modified.
2. Using any text editor, open the Txtsetup.sif file in the folder to which you copied the files in step 1.
3. Locate the [SetupData] section in the file.
4. Change the "ProductType" value from 1 to 0. Save the file and then quit the text editor.
5. On the RIS server, run Risetup.exe and select the option to add a new operating system image to the server. When the program prompts you for the source files, point to the location of the Windows 2000 Server files that you copied in step 1.
6. When you are prompted for a directory name, Win2000.wks may be the default name. Change this to Win2000.srv or any other name.
7. Follow the rest of the instructions in Risetup.exe. When Risetup.exe is finished, open the Txtsetup.sif file in the folder you used in step 1, and change the "ProductType" value back to 1 and then save and close the file.
