| Hello guys and gals,
I am just curious to see which core exam you all took first.
Could you please also post which order you took all four of the core exams.
Thank you to everyone that takes part.
| wbafrank 2002-03-05, 1:08 pm |
| was in this order:
215, 210 (taken on the same day)
216
217
If I had the choice again I would probably do 217 before 216!!
| Yeti-GBR1 2002-03-05, 1:24 pm |
| Dhooo the 240 one is not up there | |
| CyberDude 2002-03-05, 1:48 pm |
| Sorry Yeti I sought of forgot about that one (probably because I flunked it). No I will try and edit it right away. | |
| CyberDude 2002-03-05, 1:50 pm |
| Could you please edit my poll to include a box for the 240, thank you very much. | |
|
| 240 and the order for that was Pro, N/W Infra, DS and Server....if my memory serves me correctly | |
| Yeti-GBR1 2002-03-05, 3:52 pm |
| Hey CD No problem, I too flunked the 240 then went on to ace the rest only have 217 & 219/220 to do now...Might get round to it once the Cisco bug is out of my system | |
| Slinky 2002-03-05, 5:48 pm |
| Took 70-210, 70-217, 70-215, then 70-219. In that order. Not the traditional way of doing it. Gonna take 70-216 next. | |
| PotatoHead 2002-03-05, 6:28 pm |
| Took 210 and 215, taking 218 soon and 216 a little afterwards | |
| cross36 2002-03-05, 6:33 pm |
| I did 210 & 215.
Now i'm stuck at 21 for a bit
| chodan 2002-03-05, 7:09 pm |
| I flunked 240 also.
I actually learned it better by taking the 4 tests though so its a good deal.
I did 210 first but in retrospect I would take 215 first as its easier and prepares you for the rest better.
| blmann94 2002-03-05, 8:31 pm |
| 210
215
217
I'll be taking the 216 this Thursday.
| sebrojas 2002-03-05, 8:48 pm |
| 210
215
216
217
218
I found 217 (63 question format) harder than 216. I've been told the 45 question 217 was a bit easier...but i wouldn't know.
220 is next this friday.
| yerlanguy 2002-03-05, 11:00 pm |
| Slinky..You're kind of diff't. That's a really diff't approach to MCSE 2000 accreditation.
I will take 210/15 the same day and report back. AD is easier than infrastructure..I flunked 240 Dec 31/01 only because I couldn't figure out the application of variable subnet masks.
How do you figure infrastructure is easier than AD?
| CyberDude 2002-03-06, 2:19 am |
| Why is it that you can create a poll, but you cannot change it afterwards? | |
| necrophantasm 2002-03-06, 6:00 am |
| 210, 215, 216, then 217.. | |
| sebrojas 2002-03-06, 8:04 am |
| I guess if you can't figure out subnetting then the 216 can be hard because a good percentage of the test is subnetting. I got in a better flow while i was taking the 216 than i did on the 217...the 63 question 217 was kind of too long because the testing center A/C unit sucked and i was sweating. Everyone is got different opinions...some people say 210 is harder than 215 (i think that too) but some people take both and only pass 210. | |
| CyberDude 2002-03-06, 9:21 am |
| It does look like the majority took 210 first, with some not taking 215 until last. I started with 215, and hopefully in the next couple of days I will pass 210. After that I think it will be 218, which will then give me MCSA. | |
| sebrojas 2002-03-06, 9:34 am |
| You better hurry up and take the 70218 soon because the charter member (first 5000) still hasn't been achieved. good luck. | |
| wcyang 2002-03-06, 6:57 pm |
| How about the new one 70-218? anyone who passed it thinks it is harder than other test?
| |
| carlitos 2002-03-06, 7:08 pm |
| 1- 210
2- 215
3- 217
currently preparing por 216 and 218, since it should be a little similar
| anthonie 2002-03-06, 10:00 pm |
| I took 210 about nine months ago.
Then 215 two days later.
Then 217 one week later.
Then 219 one week later.
Then 220 three days later.
Then 221 five days later.
Then 216 two weeks later.
Then 216 again one week later.
Now, I'll be doing 218 in one week time.
Good luck to you and good luck to myself.

| 210. By far the easiest MS exam I have taken so far... with the exception of Net Ess, but I never considered it to be a true MS test. | |
| Luchnia 2002-03-09, 8:52 am |
| Wow...amazing how the exam difficulties vary for most of us. I thought 210 was hard, but then I was tired, my head was crashed with MS madness. I couldn't hardly read the questions and before I clicked the final button I thought I had failed. The pass bar came up, I saw "pass," and I said, good I am out of here.
The 215 was much easier for me, but then I think it was because I was getting used to ambiguous and convoluted questions over a broad subject matter. I learned how to look for "trick" words and pick them out and only look for what MS wanted for the answer. Most of us know that we could argue many of the test answers, as well as the questions. But as Freak pointed out in another post, they are Microsoft's rules and we abide by them.
I am really curious about the 218 as far as the type and style of questions.
Peace | |

| Bow down to the Netware GOD! Are you not going for 6 then? | |
| CyberDude 2002-03-09, 2:03 pm |
| Anthonie,
that is quite some resume of success you have there. I take it you have quite a few years of experince then? I am still looking for my first IT job.

| Wow....again, anthonie is the test king LOL
sheeeesh, does he come up for air?

| I have heard that the 218 is similar to the 216 and 217. If this is true, can I just study for the 216 and 217 as exam prep for the 218, or will I need to acquire 218 material? | |

This MS version of what you will be tested on:

From what I can see it is all 216/217 related!!

| I got into IT before the PC was born...I wouldn't learn Netware 6 if Novell paid me! I'm SICK of Netware.
After I get MCSE 2000 I want to tackle CCNA.
| CyberDude 2002-03-10, 1:16 pm |
| I don't know how ambigious Novells questions are after CNA, but be prepared for them from Cisco. When I took my CCNA it was if Cisco wanted me to fail, happily enough I passed with 948. With all your Netware quals, I very much doubt that Microsoft will be a challenge for you. Good luck and beat them down one by one! | |

For me 70-215 was the easiest. 70-210 was actually one of the harder exams for me.
In order of difficutly from easiest to hardest for me was. 70-215, 70-219, 70-210, then 70-217. As soon as I take 70-216 that will probably be the hardest.
| anthonie 2002-03-10, 6:49 pm |
| Well well... to me, 210 is not that difficult. I passed with above 700. But for 215, I was so lucky that I passed. 660 was the passing mark and I got 660.
217 was another easy one for me. It was like nothing else but GPO, GPO and more GPOs.
216 was the tough one for me. I failed miserably the first time. But the second time around, I was able to beat it with above 800.
I'm sitting for 218 this coming Thursday. But I don't have much time to read! Who will be able to help me!? Who else except for myself, right?
Well, good luck to myself and to those who are taking any exam soon.

| Hi CyberDude,
In my opion, experience is not the most important thing one must have in the IT industry since things are changing so fast here. No doubt, experience will help in:
- analyzing and finding solutions to the problems more quickly,
- making correct judgement and decision more quickly,
- learning new technologies more quickly,
- and of course, knowing how to tackle the exams and hence doing them faster and better.
However, it is the urge and ability to acquire new skills which counts. And it is more important that one is able to apply and use the skills learned.
Well, just my two cents. Everyone welcomed to disagree with me.

It seems to me all the things you mentioned
are things that come with expierience.
Expierience is more than just being comfortable with a particular technology.
It is an overall atitude toward the job also
it is an inuitive grasp of the many types of technology.
If you have years of expeirience with networks and databases for instance, then new network and DB tech will only be an incremental step not a huge leap.
I agree with your statement in general but I think expierience is the key to the things you list.

| Since I heard 216 was the most difficult I took it first. Took 240 next and failed, then took 210, 215, 217 in the next 10 days and passd them all. Since I passed the 4 core I'm not sure why I didn't pass 240 - I felt I had done well on it. 219 & 221 weren't too difficult - just takes time to read all the scenarios. 218 is like a combined 216 & 217 - if you know those topics you should pass without a problem. THe key to any exam is knowing the subject. If you know the topic well no exam will seem all that hard. The only one I have not yet taken is 220 - will probably do that is a few weeks. Good luck to everyone. | |

219
216 221
220
I took the 219 1 day after 217.
I found that the network and AD tests covered the same material, just from a different perspective.
I had also been working in several and varied environments with the product for over a year... late bloomer.
I thought 220 was easiest, everyone told me how hard it was... I started prepping, found out what was in the test, took a Trans and passed 1st time (thought a fluke) took b, passed, got up the next morning and wrote the exam. Didn't ace it, but walked away happy. |
