Hi guys, this is my first time here on your forum and I hope it will not be the only one. I am on the MCSE 2000 track and I am planning to take my 70-210 exam maybe next month. To tell you the truth, I am scared to death as far as my practical experience is really very little and all I am trying now is to get into the IT field. So all I am asking now is to send me any kind of advice you think is useful to me and that would be great. I have two questions, how much should I answer correct to pass the exam?
Should I read all the core exams study guides and then submit the exam or is it better to go for them one by one/
Thanks a lot for your help.

Welcome to the forums!

Approach the tests one at a time. To try to read everything and then focus in on each would be very overwhelming. Start at the beginning.

If you are truly new to computers and have no networking experience or knowledge, you might want to take a step back and at least read a study guide geared towards the CompTIA Network+ certification to give you a better foundation. Microsoft will assume you have networking knowledge.

As for how many you should answer correctly? That's easy. All of them Focus on learning all of the objectives and don't worry about the pass mark. You're only going to see PASS or FAIL at the end of the test now anyway

Thanks a lot man, actually I realized the gap there and now I am reading a book by Sybex called:"Networking Complete" and I am hoping it'll give me a good background and here at home I have got two desktops connected together and I think this better than nothing. Thanks anyway.

Can i give you some advice? You should try the A+ Cert 1st if you don't have much IT experience or knowledge. You won't get any problem if you try 210 instead, but A+ gives you a solid foundations for take the Microsoft tests. Besides, 2 Certs. does not hurt at all and will be appear on your resume.

Books for A+? Mike Meyers ALL in One and Scott Mueller Study Guide. Both are great!

Welcome to our forum. You've come to the right place to help you study for your exams and to help you in all aspects with the IT field.

Since you're new to the IT field I agree w/ Jocampo's suggestion on studying for the A+ first to help familiarize youself and using it as a stepping stone later on for pursuing other certifications. However, it's not necessary to obtain an A+ cert before moving onto something else. I'm not A+ certified but I acquired my experiences over the years through personal, on-the-job, and schooling. If you're intent with starting on the MCSE 2000 track and preparing for the 70-210 it can be done but it requires a lot of determination, hard work, and perserverence on your part to learn and master the concepts.

You're on the right track with two networked desktops at home. Doesn't have to be anything large or fancy; just so you can play and practice on it. Install W2K server on one machine and W2K Pro on the other. Buy a good study guide like New Riders or Sybex for Server and Pro and you're ready to start learning.

Welcome to the forums Louai!

There are many topics of discussion here and actively participating will no doubt help clarify any questions you come across in your studies. Many forum regulars will be more than willing to offer help so take advantage of it.

To set the tone, obtaining certifications can be a lengthy affair and best viewed as long term goals, especially when going for tracks such as MCSE. Good luck.

build yourself a lab network to practise on. a lot of people suggest studying for 210 and 215 at the same same because there is a lot of cross-over.

try to create as much stuff as you read about in your books. dhcp, installing across network, etc.

good luck.

It is really great to have all those helpfull answers and participations. Actually I want to start from MCSE and anyway I don't have enough time for A+. I know it will take more time but still as you said guys, all you need is determination and I bet you I've got gots of it. Last week on the readiness review CD I have got 42% and this week it was 54% so I'll be there soon.
Thanks.

make sure you don't just memorize the questions and understand the concepts and be sure you know how to do it! Most companies want experience more than the cert. You can also study for A+ OS along side the 70-210 a lot of the basic topics are covered in the A+ and will definitely help you on the windows exams. Good luck!

Thanks a lot Clinton for your reply and you just put your finger on my exact problem, which is I need the hands-on experience and all I can do is to tranin on my own pcs. What do you think about the other idea which says studying W2K server side by side with W2K pro?
Thank you all guys.

You shouldn't have much problems studying both it's alot of the same topics. You need a copy of both OS's though and go through the how to's on technet or any books you have and go through the exercises. Learn the basics of networking and general PC's.On the 210 there are a lot of trouble shooting of hardware issues that's where the A+ would come in handy. Anyway I hope this helps! Be patient and take your time.
