Microsoft has released a free training course titled "Understanding and Troubleshooting DNS in Windows 2000" that is available for download as a compressed file that contains a CD ISO image and instructions about how to create a CD from the image. This course provides in-depth discussion of Domain Name Service (DNS) as implemeted in Windows 2000, with emphasis on best practices for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the DNS Client service and DNS Server service in Windows 2000 networking and Active Directory directory service environments.

Download it from here:

Be sure to hit this from a high speed connection - on a cable modem my download time estimate is more than 15 minutes. Hope it's worth it.

Another great find, thanks Pav.

As DNS is the naming system behind Active Directory you can never know enough about the design, support or troubleshooing aspects.

The only thing I DON'T like about this link is that to make the CD you have to use XP's ISO recorder (only works on XP), Nero, or CD Creator

I don't like Roxio software so I REFUSE to use Easy CD Creator, don't have XP running on the machine with the burner, and don't feel like buying Nero. I use Click-n-Burn Pro and it's worked great for me - until now. Apparently it can copy the ISO image but then my computer can't do anything with it.

It says it only works on XP I have 2000 on the machine with my burner (wah).

Don't you have someone else that could copy you the disc?

there must be someone you know with the software or running XP.

I suppose another alternative would be to actually install this XP Pro upgrade CD that I have, but I really don't want to do that with this particular PC just yet. My laptop has XP Home Ed. on it but the burner has never behaved properly on it. Just more proof for you all that it sure ain't easy being me

Maybe my good buddy, Deja will hook me up with a CD image next time I see him

Being the accommodating chap he is; I'm sure he wouldn't refuse a damsel in distress.

Hmmm...maybe it is available another way

Great find. Downloading now. Are there any other ISO's of this type on MS, that I don't know about? =)

Thanks for the guide link Pavlov, I suck a DNS.

really? How often do you suck a DNS? Just giving you a hard time, buddy

This being said, I downloaded it and looked at it. The beginning is very basic. The two guys who are hosting it are not the most entertaining pair you will ever come across, but at the same time they know their stuff.

Definitely worth the download, especially if you can use the corporate bandwidth for it

I have to agree with freak, you would not want to be stuck in a life with those two and at times they are a cure for insomnia but the technical knowledge is invaluable.

You just have to wade through, make notes and let out a sigh of relief at the end (If you are still awake!)

Joking aside it is nice to have a useful freebie.

Downloaded this file twice. I get a zip corruption on the file and error says to redownload. Also, that the file changed since it was created. So d/l again doesn't do it.

Hhmmmm...let me see if I can find out what is going on here. Anyone else have this problem?
