Retiring Windows 2000?

| Can somebody give an educated guess as to how long the W2K tests might be around? I am a University student and I started the MCSE quest at the tail end of NT4. I took some classes for MCSE during during vacations from school but by the time I had time to really sit down, study and take the tests, they were all retired (argh).
In the past month, I've snagged my 210 and 215 MCPs and am currently studying like a madman for the 216. I just want to know how soon Microsoft might be thinking of getting rid of the W2K tests now that XP is on its way out the door.
For those of you who have had hands-on experience with XP release candidates, do you think its a major leap forward from W2K? W2K with its Active Directory, was a major jump from NT4. XP to me looks more like a cosmetic upgrade to W2K. Of course Microsoft is going to add some things to justify the cost of upgrading, but do you think that the learning the differences between W2K and XP will be as hard as learning the differences between NT4 and W2K?
Uh...sorry for making you all read that. Hope some of you managed to sit through my ramblings.

| My guess, (which is all anybody can do with these things )
Is that it should, could, might be 2 years or so before the next round of "required" upgrades. XP is effectively Win2K+ SP3/4. I will undoubtably cop flack for that one....... But the bottom line is that there is not that much difference. Microsoft have said that win2k and xp exams can be combined for MCSE certification so that gives some indication of their feelings on it.
The next version of the O/S is going to be a MAJOR change, (do a bit of digging on the net), but it is at least a couple of years away.
I am basing my comments on information available to me as a practicing MCT, ie. I have access to early information on new exams etc........
HTH and keep on with your studies. | |

| U might heard many mis-lead information!
Win2000 just got out, so it will here for another few good year.
Don't worry about the MCSE XP version. Not unless u are working on the XP version now and some adv tech company.
Get a good BS degree and MCSE before graduate college.
Experience is EVEYTHING!
Actually what do u study? CS or IS or EE
U will have alot of thing to learn for your next few yr in the college. Enjoy it.
Good luck |
