| Having a bit of a problem geting a NT4 (sp 6) to join a domain.
1 DC named test.co.uk
1 NIC
IP 200.200.200.254
255.255.255.0
Then I added a second IP to the same NIC
192.168.1.254
255.255.0.0
NT4 Workstation
Named PROD03
IP 192.168.1.10
255.255.0.0
192.168.1.254 (default gateway)
I can ping the default gateway from the NT4 machine, I can ping 200.200.200.254 also. From the DC I can ping all IPs successfully. If I attempt to join the domain from the NT4 machine I get the message 'A domain controller for the domain could not be found' However if I change the address on the NT4 workstation to 200.200.200.10 it can join the domain no problem. Why? I want to join the NT4 workstation to the domain and have it use a 192.168.1.xxx IP address. Any ideas?

| This is a "feature" of NetBIOS. NetBIOS can only bind to one IP address on each interface.
I have never tried to work around this, so the following suggestion is a well-intended attempt at helping: Try setting 192.168.1.254 as the primary address and 200.200.200.254 as the secondary (on the "advanced" dialog box).
Let us know if it makes a difference or not.

| Terje,
I would have to agree that you hit the nail on the head.
|
| Yes that seems to have done the trick. |
