I have a question or problem that I am stumped on. I understand that NTFS Premissions are Cumulative. And when put with a Shared folder the role is reversed that the most restrictive wins. Well I set up my machine and I gave my everyone group for sharing full access. Then I created a SubFolder and gave my User1 read premissions. Everytime I try this my User1 is able to Delete my SubFolder. Can any one help me

I know this may sound silly, but is user1 logged on locally where the directory is?

I think it's because you're logged on locally

So if you are logged in locally what applies then? I guess I am confused

Share permissions only apply when someone is connecting to the computer over the network -- from another computer. If you are local then the NTFS permissions apply.

That is why you can still have security if it is a FAT system -- over the network, but if someone sits down at the machine and logs in locally they can destroy everything...
