| Hi Daviet,
Here it goes...my brain is chugging....
Microsoft Certificate Services uses PKI. In order for you to impliment PKI on your network you need to have a certificate authority(A CA, can be an enterprise, standalone, or third party). EFS uses certificates to distribute public and private keys that protect the EFS file encryption key. You use EFS on files/folders.
PKI is a combination of the actual software, encryption tech, and services that allow you to protect your data. PKI relies on digital certificates to allow communication between a trusted user and a resource.
I think I got it all in there...I hope I didn't confuse you more
Let me know if I can help | |

| Certificates can also be used for encrypted email and authentication to a network. ie Smartcards. It deals with much more than just EFS. It is a way to guarantee security on network traffic for most any traffic. It is used to establish decryption credentials, set up trusts for sites. The list goes on. | |
