| Hello all
I’ve just recently finished my CCNA and was interested in MCSE. I’ve visited the MS web site and seen their view of what an MCSE is, what they do and how to become one. Now I'm looking for a little friendly information/advise from real people on the following subjects.
1 How do you go about getting your MCSE?
By this I mean what are the best books, study materials, study methods, how long should it take, what order should I be taking the exams in etc…
2 What kind of job can you get with MCSE?
I know you have to account for experience but what types of jobs are out there right now?
3 How valuable is the cert?
Is it worth the paper it’s printed on? How much experience do you need to go with it?
As I said, I’m just starting out and trying to sniff out the best path to take. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

| I beginning to work on the 2000 track. I just finished NT 4.0. As well I am new to the industry and was concerned about alot of the same things.
I am not sure in what order you should start your 2000 track. I am sure someone out there will see this post and can help on that. But I can say that the best study guides I have found are things put out by Microsoft. Microsoft training kit it one I have used or NT and just recieved for 2000. Very good stuff! I have also used Exam Cram. I found those to be very helpful. You do have to commit to reading them from cover to cover and doing the practice exams. And of course hands on is the best. Now, as for how long it should take I think depends on you. Everyone is different. I did NT w/ classes for all 6 tests and all tests in 6mos. But, I am sure it will probably take longer for 2000.
In your area I couldn't answer on jobs out there but having your cert if definitly a plus even at an entry level position. This will usually prove that you have determination and drive. Lots of employers appreciate that. I believe the cert if as valuable as you make it. Study hard and try to stay away from dumps that hand out answers. You can't rely on them and this will definitly take away from the value of the cert. I got lucky and found a job while I was still taking classes but I was just recently offered a position as a System Engineer w/ $10,000 more a year w/ only 5mos. expierence. But like I said most of this all depends on you. Good luck in your future endeavors and I hope this sheds some light for you.
