I`m just curious as to how many of us will take the extra test "70-218" to get the MCSA after we finish or while finishing our MCSE?

Where do you think 70-218 is on the difficulty scale compared to the design exams. Maybe it would serve as good practice on the path to MCSE 2000 What do you think?

I could only speculate right now on that, as the exam content hasn`t been listed.
I notice that you have your A+, with it and a Net+ you could get your elective covered for MCSA.
Network+ was by far the easiest exam I have ever taken.
I didn`t even study for it and passed with a 87%. Although I had just fished my MCSE at the time.

I plan on getting the MCSA as soon as Microsoft irons out everything regarding
the 218 exam.

It certainly can't hurt to be an MCSA/MCSE!!

Here is a link on microsoft for the skills being measured on 70-218.It looks like if youve gotten past the MCSE it should be all old material for the most part.

Since my future plans are in Web Development and design, this will make it so I don't have to become some networking "Guru" before then.
After obtaining MCSA I plan on going for the CIW Series exams, just have to have some patience to wait for the MS .NET server exams to hit the streets.
The bonus is I have already nailed 70-210 down and before that recieved the A+ and Network+ certifications... Woohoo only 2 exams left to get the MCSA.

Good luck to everybody in your endeavors,

I agree this is a good bonus especially for you it seems.
Most of us don`t mind an extra test if the bonus is a premiere level certification.
I`ve talked to some who worry that I might look "over certified" and I can see their point but I`m not sure a potential employer would see it that way.
I am basically focused on Networking and, networked systems so even though I have several certificatons they still maintain a focus on those things.

THE WAY I SEE IT IS LIKE THIS

ITS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT NOVELL DOES WITH ITS
CNA/CNE CERTS.

GET ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE TO BE DANGEROUS

PLUS ALL THE CONSULTING FIRMS CAN KEEP CLAIMING TO HAVE MICROSOFT CERTIFIED EMPLOYEES AS WELL

I think for my purpose I look forward to the 270 test as I am more interested in that product line at this time.
The 218 like the 270 is still in development stages and I would like to have a better idea of the content going in. Especially at the $100 sitting fee.

I don't know if being over certified is a real concern, although when I see some with MCP, MCSE, MCDBA, CCNA, CNE, LCA, MCT I wonder what does this guy really do? Take tests?
Its like the phrase "jack of all trades master of none". I guess.

There just seems like there are so many boot camps that pump out 15 MCSE's a week and I think the IT community is getting hip to that.
You may very soon encounter a job that requires you take a test to prove you really know what your certification states you do.
I used Troytec notes for the 221 and I felt like that was maybe too much of an advantage.

I do not want to see my Cert watered down or devalued by this new trend.

So I am unsure if it would benefit anyone having the MCSA more than it would a more well known certification like the MCSE.
Another cert behind your name may be less helpfull than you think.

I certainly agree with Cobby, having too many certifications has its disadvantages. Because in the long run ur choice of jobs narrrows down. Few months back with just MCSE, CCNA and CLP (Notes) . I was being considered overqualified in most places.

Now with most MCSE's also becoming MCSA's it will just add more variation to the existing plethora of certicates.

Plan to do MCSE and then MCSA.
