I was wondering where people got their online nickname from... so how about letting us know?

I got mine -- freak -- when I was teaching at MIT in Cambridge, MA... Long story, but basically one of my students "caught" me reading a Noam Chomsky book and declared me a "freak" on the spot, and all the others in the class kept the name... not very respectful, but cute
I guess it stuck!

So how about yours?

I got mine from the guys at work when they heard about me running 3COM's SPID (Service Profile Identifier) Wizard for my 3COM ImpactIQ ISDN Modem.

I don't use the modem anymore (switched to DSL) but the nickname stuck

Asked my husband for an idea for a name - all the ones I wanted were taken - he came up with henequen (an outmoded mexican cash crop, better known as twine). He's doing a history major - hates IT. I got pretty close when studying for MCSE 4. Now I've got the bug... I'm onto the 2000 track!! (I'm insane).

PS I think you guys have the advantage studying in the Northern hemipshere at the moment - I'm studying in a heat wave!

Ok lads what do you want?

A. The short, 2 line version.
B. The humorously verbose, but interesting version.

The choice is yours, Come on Down.

Are you kidding its gotta be B

My story is simple I used to work with a guy named Ed and I continually asked questions so he took to calling me wilbur from the MR Ed show. It stuck

By the way henequen. I too was a history major. I even got the sheepskin. and on this board insanity is a biggg Plus. just ask Yeti the Insane.

It's gotta be B, oh, it's gotta be B, What else could it B...

oh, forget it. B, Mr. Yeti, please.

Compared to the rest of you, my nickname's history is pretty tame. I started a computer services business several years ago and I called it Kingsway because I wanted the business name to reflect a subtle reference to my Christian faith (Christ is my King and I strive to go His way...'nuff said on that.) I added the "4us" because this also reflects the beliefs of my family. I'm not posting this to get into a theological or philosophical discussion; I'm just replying to Freak's original post.

But I like reading these stories!

Mine is the name of my favourite scotch... a beautiful 16 year old from Islay. If it weren't $45 a bottle I would probably be an alcoholic. LOL.
