Author update on sister site to www.mcse2000.plus.com

The ISP has reported this as the cause for the downed site www.jonmin.f9.co.uk

FTP progress report

Today saw the installation of legacy services on the new servers, that
is http and https for homepages.force9.net and preparatory work for CGI
counters etc. This is required because of the historical issue of
homepages.force9.net being both a web server and FTP server.

Work remains on schedule for Friday completion.

Ongoing FTP problems

Customers will be aware of ongoing FTP problems for several days. The
cause of this problem frankly had us puzzled but, for those in the know,
looks to be a complex issue with some of our older layer 3 and 4
switches and the FTP daemon we run on our servers.

Rather than try and fix the old system, for which we cannot guarantee
timescales, we have declared the old system unrecoverable and will this
week be replacing the entire FTP service. That means new switches, new
servers and new FTP daemons.

It is our aim at this time to complete the work by Friday, but regular
updates will be posted here.

Please accept our apologies for the continued poor service, we will
endeavour to replace the service as soon as possible. No changes to
your configuration are required and all addresses will be maintained.

Re: FTP access problem

Currently the FTP service through homepages.free-online is not
accessible.

We have identified that the problem is with the DNS and are sorting
the problem out now.

We do not envisage that the problem will be resolved shortly.

In the meantime, Customers are advised to use an alternate address
which will still get them to their FTP space. The address is:
