Ok this one is driving me nut's HPDJ-870Cxi on NT4 Connecting to it from Win 2K

|
| Ok ppl,
HELP!!!
I've been trying to do this one since I got W2K to no avail.
What it is is that I have an NT4 BDC with a HPDJ-870Cxi on it and shared over the network. Problem being you cannot (well at least no way that I found) capture this printer from a W2K machine across the network as it asks for drivers which to the life of me I cant find!!!!!!!
Before you ask, yes I can install it locally as the drivers are in W2K but not from NT4 shared one. yes I know I could move the printer to the said BDC W2K PC; However there must be a way for doing this without moving the printer?
All suggestions clean or otherwise welcome.
In the mean time I'm off fly fishing (De-Stressing therapy)

| Ok I can not belive that someone out there does not have the answer to share with me. That is unless I'm being so stupid to pose such a question that has never being asked of you Boffins? Radical concept.
Anyway's I'd really really appreciate some input on this one.

| Yeti,
I've been trying to look this one up in my spare time today (didn't have much). I haven't found anything yet. Everything I've found is the other way around. Printer is on W2K, how do you load NT drivers.
Possibilities:
Seems like W2K would use the W98 drivers if they were true W98 drivers and loaded on the NT4 BDC? or
Copy the W98 drivers to a network share, when installing the printer, choose 'Have disk' and point to share?
I keep looking.

| Yeti,
I will try
First of all tell me some additional info -
Please excuse the redundance but so I have it correct you do see the share name over your network ?
Is this on a print server (i.e HP JetDierct and just hosted by the server) or is it physcially attached to server print port?
Also this is stupid but have you checked HP site for updates on the HPDJ-870Cxi driver for W2K.
What driver(s) are your NT client systems using?
|
| Thanks Lads I was beginning to wonder if I should have a bath my fur is well lest say STINKY!!
B4 I go any further; I have checked all know sites for updated drivers, cleaning materials, warp cores......etc.
Ok the share nane is HPDJ870. no spaces, less than 15 letters/numbers so it ain't that one
Also its a std LPT1 connection on an NT4 SP6a BDC with the latest updated drivers on.
HP indicates, as do MS that all the drivers are included with W2K (granted they are for LOCAL Printers but not Networked ones mwaaaaaaa!!!) Typical eh!
So you see my dilema? Pls dont try this at home as it's VERY VERY DANGEROUS (14lB Sledge hammer poised above said printer/PDC) CRUNCH
Ahhhhh feels better.
Good luck if you choose to accept this insane mission this message will do something in about 30 days.

| Yeti,
For what it's worth. have you stopped the share and re-shared it to see if it makes any difference. I know you're thinking "this bloody chap has lost it" but it's worth a shot ath this point. Beleive me I've seen weirder things ....
|
| Manny, I've even tried:
Praying to;
God, Buddha, Satan, The Simpsons, Star Trek(Including the BORG) and many many others.
But to answer your question: Yip 4th thing I tried. Sorry
P.S. I dont think for future ref. anyone should try the sledge hammer thing! Boy has it made a mess

| Oh, but just the feeling of that hammer smashing printer into peices ....
Now Im curios, have you tried using a generic HP driver?
| |
|
| I've tried everything a person in my position & qualification bracket (Dunce, Idiot, Moron and all the rest of the descriptions that may fit me).
Aha I know what I haven't tried yet......
The Kitchen Sink.
No seriously, I called in a outside consultant from an MS Solution Provider and I'll give you two guesses what he suggested?
1:..........?
2:..........?

| 1. Different Printer
2. Re-install OS
Not in any specific order !
Those bastards! | |
|
| Close, but not quite!
1: Move printer to Win2K server & share it and re-setup the printers on ALL the workstations. Fat chance!!!!
2: Upgrade all network to Win2K Servers & Professional. Not in a million light years!!!
So basically I paid £550 for a, now how can I put this...MORON who has his MCSE to tell me something ludicrous.
Moral to the tail don't ask MS to send an expert.(Well at least not the one we got)
And....to think that I'm working towards the same certification....OMG I'll be a MORON from MS soon.
Note this is not a jibe at all you lot out there only the said person they sent.
