| passed this afternoon. got 852.
things to watch out for:
authentication methodology. ie, you have Basic Authentication on your Proxy. a user is connecting to an external site that uses Basic. what happens. (i don't know, i guessed. don't know if i got it right.)
what is needed to create a secure environment while running WINS on the PROXY server.
know the VPN/RAS/RRAS stuff. review the autodialing configuration when using ISDN or Modem for Internet connection.
get the performance monitoring and logging files studied GOOD!
good luck. one more elective and i am done with MCSE NT4. anyone doing courses from the 2000 series as an NT4 elective? i plan to do 219 (active directory), which i hope will be easier because i know NDS.
good luck all.

| I'm taking the test on Wednesday, and that'll finish up NT4 for me. God I hope I pass, cos I need a little time off from cramming(six exams in 5 months, although slower than some, is too much for me), and maybe some of this stuff I've learned can soak in before I jump into 2000, NetWare, Cisco, Linux......
Congrats Chunder. | |

| thanks guys.
and some tips? well, i used the Curt Simmons Proxy book. decent. and also the Sybex Exam Notes book. good. it actually filled on some holes that the Simmons book left open. used EE5.1. very good. questions weren't word for word like in other MS tests but still, they gauged my knowledge pretty well -- the concepts are there. also, a HUGE factor, i installed and configured (and am actually using it right now) the eval. version of MS Proxy 2.0 on my NT server for use with my basement network over DSL. helped me get familiar with the screens and the product. at first it was weird. but i installed it about 3 different times and that definately helped. my friend who i studied with didn't get his proxy installed and didn't score as high as i did.
i did get blindsided by a few questions that were rather odd and just had to stab at them but they weren't too bad.
in all, i think i spent about 2 weeks really studying. grabbed the Simmons book and read it almost all the way through before hitting ExamEssentials and then used that book, ExamNotes and the actual product when i came to questions that i wasn't sure of.
it actually wasn't that bad. had i given another solid day on studying i think i would have gotten in the 900s.
good luck... and hurry and come do 70-219 with me.
i had to come back to add this after reading what kenny posted in his free points post. LEARN how to configure subnets with the calc. ask me if you need more info.
