Author Passed Proxy Today - 808

2000-11-03, 5:11 pm

Just passed the Proxy exam this morning. Thanks for all your input FreddyFlyer, Condor409 and Kingsway4us. 4 down and 2 to go. Onto Enterprise or elective? Any thoughts?

Congratulations! Go for Enterprise, as it is a core component. In case you don't get to finish the MCSE track by the end of December, at least you will be able to take the 70-240 accelerated exam from MS for Win 2000 w/ the 3 core exams completed. Otherwise, you will have to take 4 individual tests at $100 a pop, where the 70-240 is free!

Maybe I am wrong but I understood if you have the 4 core (Workstation, Server, Enterprise, Networking Essentials) by the end of December 2000, you can still continue your NT 4 track and choose 2 electives that are not retiring. i.e. Proxy Server and ? True or False?

First, congratulations to you!

Yes, from what I understand is like that.

Congrat on your pass, glad I was able to help. Go for Enterprise next. Personaly, I would get the next two exams done in a hurry before the end of the year. That way you don't have to worry about it. Check out www.examdrill.com , it is very popular with the Net+ people. They have a practice test for Enterprise that I know will help. E-mail me at freddyflyer@hotmail.com I can help.

Aim High!

Sounds good to me FreddyFlyer. I plan to do Enterprise next that way I will have the four core done by the end of the year and will leave me one elective to complete. If I dont get the elective done by the end of the year, I can pick an elective that is not retiring and complete the 4 track and then pursue the 2k track. My goal is to be DONE by December with TCP/IP as the other elective, unless something else is better. I have Workstation, Server, Networking Essentials and Proxy complete. Wish me luck.. Thanks for the feedback..

Sorry, but I have to beg to differ. You need to have all 6 exams done before the end of the year to get your MCSE 4.0
You can however take the exams that are not retired after the forst of hte year, but they will not count towards your MCSE retroactively.

Congratulations! That test is a beast, but it's behind you now. How do you spell relief? P-a-s-s-a-n-y-m-i-c-r-o-s-o-f-t-c-e-r-t. (Well, that's how I've been spelling it all year.)

Hey, guys and gals, I don't want to get into an argument here, but this is something that we shouldn't miss the boat on. Believe me, I'm not doing this to make waves, I just wanted to be sure, too. Concerning the NT 4.0 track for MCSE by 12/31/00, I pulled this directly off Microsoft's web site tonight:

"Q. If I have passed all core exams in the Windows NT 4.0 MCSE track by December 31, 2000, but have not yet passed my elective exams by that date, can I still continue to earn my certification?
A. Yes, if you have passed all core exams in the Windows NT 4.0 MCSE track exams by December 31, 2000, you may continue to earn your MCSE certification in the Windows NT 4.0 track, as long as the electives you select have not retired."

(For the preceding, go to http://www.microsoft.com/trainingan...es/default.asp; click Certification, then click MCSE; then click on the link for the MCSE FAQ page.)

So, the way I read this is: if you have your cores done by 12/31/00, but you don't have your electives done by then, it's okay; you can still earn your NT 4.0 MCSE in 2001 if your electives didn't retire on 12/31/00. According to that same page, once you get your MCSE in NT 4.0, it's valid until 12/31/01 (again, the way I read it).

In light of this information, get Enterprise done FIRST! I have one more elective to get done, and I'm doing Exchange. I work with it at my job, but besides that, it seems to be a hot button in the job market right now.

Good luck, and keep up the great work!

First and foremost congratulations! I’m glade you passed this test. Next I would personally recommend that you take and finish Enterprise. You would want to finish the core by December 31 so you can be eligible for the win2k-accelerated exam; also it’s a much easier test then proxy (which you have just passed). Focus on the core and move on to the elective.

I know this is proxy forum but a question to your comment... Why are people putting enterprise down or is that just hype?

i know you weren't talking to me (since i have no post in here) but i took enterprise last friday. got 866. i didn't think it was as crazy as everyone in that (enterprise) forum was saying. if you know your stuff you'll be in good shape. i took about a month on enterprise and had 3 books to my disposal. of these books the IDG Books Alan R. Carter was the best (better than Sybex and ExamCram which were the other too). ExamEssentials was a good help but the questions weren't identical like in WS and Server.

anyhow, wanted to share my thoughts.
