Author Passed!

2000-10-11, 6:26 pm

Passed with an 867. This makes me a MCSE, yeah! This journey has taken about six months of intense work.

Used Exam Essentials and TroyTech study guide. No braindumps. Everything was covered in one form or another between those two, I highly recommend them both. Also, used the MOC self-study guide, installed Proxy on my home network and got a good feel for it. There were 68 questions and ninty minute time limit. I took about 35 minutes. This one reminded me more of A+ or Net + because of so many questions.

Hi there FreddyFlyer,

Congratulations on the very nice pass and most importantly MCSE!!!!

Well, I am still in pondering mode here...Everyone I speak with locally tells me to go with Exchange and if you want later on you could pick up Proxy...They said just go to any corporation and they are screaming for qualified Exchange people....

Probably true...To be honest as much as I like a little challenge, I am kinda scared...I have also gotten feedback from some people who took the test with no experience at all before, in Exchange and made it...So, I don't know...Now that I have told friends etc. about it, they will proabably laugh at me if I tell them I am really nervous about it...Of course, as usual, I guess if you know your stuff it should be okay(I hope)....

Hopefully, I can come up with some kind of decision soon, so that I can focus my complete atention to the task at hand....Anyway, enough about me...Go out and celebrate there, I know I would if it were my DAY!!!

What's up next for you? Any plans or just a little R&R for a bit? Congratulations again, I am happy for you!!!

Kang,

Thanks for the kind words. Time for some R&R. Then on to W2K after first of the year.

I looked at Exchange and still might tackle it for an elective to replace TCP/IP which is expiring next year. You are right on your observations about employers screaming for exchange experience, I see it all the time in want ads. TCP/IP is still very popular and that is the reason I took it.

Proxy was quick and easy for me to pick up and learn, plus I am interested in the security aspects of it. Guess it depends on the time you have to devote to learning it and whether you use it at work or not. I have had more to do with the proxy server than the e-mail server. Good Luck.

Hi Again,

Yes, I agree with you about TCP/IP even though it is retiring it is a critical area of knowledge to have...Even if it is retiring I think it is good to show on your transcript that you showed demonstratable competence in the subject...

Well go get some R&R you deserve it!! Yes, you are right I think in the long run which you choose to do depends on the application you have for it...In all probability I will do the same thing too...If I do Exchange now I will do Proxy later on depending upon time etc...Especially since both count towards Win2K at least for now....Might as well take advantage of them....Anyway, go rest and have a cool one on me!!!

Hi Freddy!
Congratulations... You did good a job.
Please, tell me, what is structure of test:
scenario questions, multichoice, how big the questions and so on.

Only one scenario, very similar to the ones I saw in the Troy Tech study guide. Lots of multi-multiple choice. There were so many questions, I found myself getting anxious. I had gotten used to the "smaller" exams. Although, this also gives you a chance to miss more and still pass. Know your Proxy services, installation and configurations, monitoring and troubleshooting, intergration with other operating systems (Novell and Unix), and planning. Several TCP/IP questions, had one that looked for a range of IP address given an address and the subnet mask of 192. Used the "anding" on the scientific calaculator for that one. Exam Essentials shows you how to answer that kind of question. Saw the infamous "how many licenses" do you need question also. Get the Troy Tech Study guide and Exam Essentials, that is the best advise I can give to someone who is studying for this exam.

Good Luck,

FF

FreddyFlyer,

I'd heard you passed and wanted to come over and congratulate you. Good Job! You've been an active participant and given me good views and knowledge. I know it must feel good to have it over for now. I hope you're going to relax, celebrate and chill. Hope to run into again down the road, and hope i can utilize you for info if needed? Congrats again.

I'm hoping you come back after you passed. I'm studing for Proxy 2.0 using Troy Tec Edition 5. Did you have a later Edition by chance? Thanks

I used Edition 6 of the Troy Tech Study guide. But, I bet you'll do fine with Edition 5.

I'll stick around here for a while, since I probably have posted the most on this thread in the last month.

BTW, this is my 100th post on Examnotes.net. I just noticed that and had to come back and make a comment about it!
