| Hi all,
I know these questions have probably been asked heaps, but i am interested in studying for the CNA.
I am unemployed but a lot of jobs i have noticed say that you need to know Novell and be a CNA. The adds say you should know Novell 5.0+ and groupwise. I have worked with Novell 4.0 and groupwise in a working environment but that was 4 years ago and i have forgotten it. I do not have any Novell software at home.
So I want to do the Novell CNA to increase my job chances.
So my questions are
1. What exam should i do
2. What are some good books to use. I need all the software to come with the books.
3. If i use Netware 6.0 will i have an idea on how to use Netware 5.0 in case i get a job and they are using that.
4. If i do Netware 5.0+ will i be left behind because i plan on getting my MCSE before i progress further past the CNA.
I am desperate i need a job soon and i think doing a CNA will help. I am also planning on getting my MCSA before i do the CNA.
Thanks if you can reply.

| Nero64,
I would suggest going to http://novell.com
Take a look at the CNA exam objectives for 5.1 and for Netware 6.
Chances are they're very similar. 6 will have some new features. But if you can handle Netware 6, you should have no trouble working on a Netware 5 server.
As for study material I would suggest buying the Novell study kits - you can get these at Novell's website also.
If your just going for your CNA, you don't really need the Novell software. Try
http://www.pct-nas.com/Main.Asp they offer simulators for Netware and it's much cheaper than buying the full software. Then if you pursue the CNE look into buying the software then.

| Really there are some differences to be expected between CNA 6 and 5.1, but I would recommend just doing 6 because there is still much that is similar. Probably the biggest difference is the use of ConsoleOne more and more with 6, rather than NWAdmin. C1 is used some with Netware 5.1, so you will get some exposure to it this way as well, but C1 in theory works about the same as NWAdmin. Of course, there are new objects in Edir with Netware 6, and some other differences from 5.1, but the bulk of the information is the same.
If you've had some experience with Netware, then some simulating should work fine, and I would recommend using any Novell Press books you can find.

| I've just been doing some research on the CNA books and courses.
The Netware 6.0 CNA course 3001(50-677) has no publications out at Amazon relating to the exam. It has a book coming out on the 1st June written by the popular author David James Clarke:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...6798603-0483953
The Novell site offers a self study training kit with everything you could want for $396 but i can't afford that sort of money.
The Netware 5.1 CNA course 560(50-653) has a few publications out including this one which is rated highly:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...=glance&s=books
The above publication comes with the Novell server and client software so you can install it.
I want to get my CNA before June this year so based on the books available i have decided to do the 5.1 exam and if i want to upgrade later then i can always do so. 5.1 is very popular in my country. My aim is to get a job and most companies are running the 5.x platform when they are putting the jobs in the paper.

| Try e-bay. I've found used kits for Novell and they're reasonably priced.
I don't know if you'll find anything for netware 6, but if it saves $$$ it's worth a try.
Oh another source would be found under the support section of Novell's web-site.
You can find detail information on NDS, NWadmin, ConsoleOne, etc.
And it doesn't cost you anything.

| Demigod is wise to recommend eBay. I found several 5.1 books there when I was doing CNE, and saved much money. And the Novell site does have some good documentation. I particularly used the Novell site when reviewing eDirectory. |
