Hey Guys/Gals,

I am going for my CNA 5.1 over X-mas vacation,I was wondering if you could give me some hints or anything i might really need to know for the test,I am using Netware 5.1 admin course 560 student manual by Novell and Selftest software.

The test is not too difficult. What are three benefits of Netware 5.1? pg4.
How many Search drives can there be? Pg 235
How do you create a directory in DOS?
What items reside in the SYStem directory? Pg 184 (There were 5 questions)
Know your CX and its switches
Know NDIR switches pg 205
Know what drive is assigned if you leave out the colon
Know what INS does in MAP commands
Know where the NAL file exists? Pg 421
Know 3 benefits of App Launcher? Page 420
Know what snaAppShot is, and 423?
Know what snapin?
Know NDPS features? Pg 441
Know printer types? Pg 457
Know SRS, ENS RMS, page 456
Know NDPS printing architecture pg 460-461 (what is and agent, etc. 461 is best for this)
Know what FILER is?
The difference between the # and the @ command? Pg 116
Know disk management attributes? Pg 346 (dc means don’t compress)
Know file rights? Pg 328 (whats needed to salvage deleted files)
Know mapping, good examples pg 243
Know typeful and typless relative etc, I used page 73-74 for a good review.

Well that’s it, the test is very similar to the 50-639, so if you get a good study guide for that you are set.

was this test like so easy to pass or what because the course I took on this in college was simple and real easy to learn

That's exctly it, NOvell is a better networking system, and easier than M$. Don't get me wwrong though, the test is pretty hard. I took it twice. After the first test, I went back and looked/studied all the areas, that I highlighted above. Remember it is still an entry level exam.

MaulerJ,

What testing software did you use when studying for 5.1?

Thanks

I did not use any test software, I just read the book, and built a server at home, and followed the projects that were in the book

That book you used really was given some horrible reviews...I have a horrible one too, Exam Cram's Netware 5 Administration...I am doing what you did, build a server & tweak the client...perhaps that will help me pass the exam...I also have the exam essentials for 50-639 (only $50ish dollars)...I also bought TestOut's software, it is pretty cool stuff too...well, I am suppose to take this exam on Jan 24th...wish me luck...

It's been my experience that the exam cram books aren't the best source for Novell certification.

The very best source are the official Novell Student kits. The general rule is if it's in the exam objectives it's testable. If you stick with the Novell kits, they cover EXACTLY what's testable. I've had a few experiences where the exam question was word for word from the book.

As for practice tests, I like selftestsoftware. There's is just like taking the Novell exams.

The best additional study info I've found has been the material written by Clarke

Still it is the best book in the market. He is stuffing so much unnecessary stuff into the book to irritate the reader. But I followed the same book and CNE study guide by the same author. That's all. No practise exams.

Well, remember. Novell exams are tough. But if you know the stuff, you pass.

Whatz Up!!!!!!

I am looking to go for my CNA after I finish the last two exams for my CCNP and one exam for my CCSA. My question is what would be a good book that would give a person such as myself, who has had more experience with Windows NT/2000 than Novell, that would not only give me what I need to pass the exam but, also more of the hands-on exercises? I would like a book that would give me the best of both worlds, from an exam point of view and real-world point of view in order to have a clear understanding of Novell.

Thanks.

For the 5.1 exams the best stuff is the Novell Press books by David Clarke, and the Clarke notes. The CNE 5.1 book comes with a CD with a 3 license version of Netware. I don't know about the CNA 5.1 books. If you are going to pursue CNA/CNE you may just want to pursue the Netware 6 route. There is an upgrade exam available for a short time if you're already a CNE 5 or 5.1, but if you don't take the upgrade soon you'll finish CNA/CNE 5 just in time to go through the whole process for 6. There's not a lot in terms of study material for CNA/CNE 6 available right now, and for CNA/CNE 5.1 I was able to get most of the Clarke books off Ebay for a great price. I believe a CNA 6 book is soon due out, check Amazon for it.

I find Netware so damn confusing. However I learned 4.11 and 5 in school. Never got much hands on though. It's not like something you can set up at home. I'm using the QUE Netware 5 door-stopper to study for CNA.

Taking CNA NetWare 5.1 is not a good path to follow.
Upgrade yourself to CNA Netware 6 and don't stick to the old one.

Waste time and waste money. Is not worthy.

But who uses Netware 6? Many places haven't even upgraded to 5.

I thought United States is faster than others country. Thanks for your update.

Know NetWare 6, you still able to administrate and manage NetWare 5.1, cos NetWare 6 is enhancement to NetWare 5.1. Of course, not to NetWare 4.x.

There are many company's that still run 4.11.

Mostly do to money problems and the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Just an FYI . .. .

Novell is requiring all CNE's to be Netware 6 by October 31, 2003.

If I were going for my CNA, I would change to Netware 6.

I don't think so. At least there isn't any news on Novell's site about that ..

Sounds good. I'm not really interested in the CNE.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.
Only CNE's are required to upgrade to Netware 6.

My advise would be if you don't have your CNA, then pursue Netware 6 CNA instead of 5.1

Any good books out there for v6 with CD included for demo purposes? I am guessing that by the end of March beginning of April is when I will take the exam.
