Any last minute pointers on the Upgrade exams? I'm planning on taking it within the next couple weeks.

I've been using the Exam Essentials and Self Test Software, as well as the Netware 6 Administrator handbooks. EE has always been good prep in the past, and most of the new stuff doesn't seem too hard to grasp.

Which do you feel is the better practice test software? Exam essentials or Self Test software?

I'll have to let you know once I take the exam. Exam Essentials has always been good. This is the first I've used the Selftest software, but it seems to have some nice features as well.

I passed the Upgrade to Netware 6 exam last month using Exam Essentials. Finished the test in 20 minutes. I've used EE exclusively for Novell exams for the last 3 years. It's the best product out there. I also used it to pass the IT Project+ yesterday. Called Novell and they will issue me a MCNE since I have CNE6 and IT Proj+ now. Good Luck to everyone!

Did you use the new version, 6 of EE or 5.5? Just curious cause I bought all of Novell tests awhile back for 5.5. Wondering if there was a difference.

I just passed the IT Project+ today myself and joined you all in the MCNE ranks.

FYI: I have been using the Self Tests from STS Software for all of my Novell stuff. They are the only Novell authorized self test software provider that I am aware of (with a full endorsement from Novell) and I kid you not, some of the practice questions come out VERY, VERY CLOSE to the exam questions. They are almost verbatim with the exception of a few changes in filler info. I'm not saying that all the questions are like that, only 5 or so throughout the test, but every little bit helps

So, is it difficult?

Any hint?

The Upgrade to 6 test was easier than I thought it would be. I was initially worried about the clustering portion but I only saw a few questions about it and they were pretty general. The most important thing I believe is knowing the difference between iMonitor, iManager, and Remote Manager and knowing what each do. Be sure to know where on the screen to click to do certain tasks. There are a couple of Point-and-clicks in the test.

Know NSS really well and how you manage it. Remember, in Netware 6, all the NSS management is in ConsolOne now, not NWConfig at the server console. The utility you use to convert a traditional Netware volume to NSS is VCU.NLM. I specifically remember that question.

This info should get you started. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Passed CNE upgrade today, so looks like I can join the MCNE ranks, too. Finally. Getting some good experience at work with 5.1 right now, so the experience is helping all the study and simulations for the CNE tests gel, and vice versa

Used EE 6, and I don't know if there is a big difference between 5.5 or not. I've used EE for the last year for all my CNE exams and have found them very worthwhile. However, for the Upgrade exam I think the Self-Test software was the better bet as the quiz questions involved more Fill in the blank, and Point and Click answers which gives a candidate better prep for this exam

What study guide did u use for CNE upgrade exam?

Kasor,

I just used the Novell Netware 6 Administrators Handbook , and supplemented that with the Novell's Guide to Netware 6 Networks. I read the handbook through twice, read chapters in the "Guide" to supplement any weak areas, andn then used Self-Test Software and EE practice exams. I highly recommend the Self-Test Software for this one as it exposes one more to the new Netware 6 tools.

However, I fear I may not be MCNE (shucks!) as I took IT Project+ back in October, then the upgrade exam just a couple weeks ago. Upon revisiting Novell's site the directions to get MCNE state 1. CNE upgrade to 6, then 2. IT Project+. I was already CNE 5.1 when I took P+, however, I don't know how big a stickler they will be to the rules.

Ah well, if I don't get it, on to MCSA. Then I'll test later toward MCNE.

I'm quite sure (but not 100%), that the order taking the exams does not matter. I'd be highly surprised if it does. Don't forget to fax a copy of your it-project+ certificate to Novell Education at 801-861-3900 if you have not done it yet. see http://www.novell.com/education/cer...e/mcne_nw5.html
for more details. or check your status on novell's cne site.
