I believe this is going to be my starting point for the journey into Novell. I am going to use the Mastering Netware 5.1 guide by James Gaskin. I also have the exam essentials 5.5 questions. On this exam is there simulations? I guess the question is what kind of questions should I expect....the typical mulitple choice, fill-in-the-blanks, true/false, drag and drop, simulators? Or is this wrong. I just finished up CCNA and really want to get started on the 050-653 exam. Also I see where version 6 is coming out so is this exam going to retire anytime soon? I am full of questions cause I am not real sure about all this Novell stuff. CNA is starting point for CNE correct. Sortta like MCP is starting point for MCSE?
Thanks

Me again!! Check out the FAQ section at novell.com
http://www.novell.com/education/testinfo/testfaq.html

That should help clear up some of your questions.

Also something new to Novell is that if you are a current MCSE or have A+ or Network+ certs. You don't have to take all of the exams for the CNE - I'm not realy sure how all this works, so if you have this situation, I'd give them a call.

Hello DemiGod, I contact Novell education but forgot to mention anything about my other certs. The 50-639 exam can still be taken and it is adaptive whereas 50-653 is not adaptive. I am not sure what route to go but I prefer the adaptive tests over non-adaptive tests anyday.
I have some books I have looked at and would like to get some feedback from some people who has already taken and achieved the CNA status.

What do you think about:
Novell NetWare 5.0 with Projects Ted Simpson , ISBN#0-76001080-3

Novell Netware 5 Administration Courseware kit

Novell's Guide to NetWareŽ 5 Networks

I cannot afford all of them at once so would like to know which one you would pick or if you have another book that is really goof for the CNA exam.

Just another thought...is there another message board out there concerning CNA and Novell. Just doesn't seem like too many people frequent this board, but I could be wrong.

Thanks again DemiGod for all your guidance, the fog is slowly rolling out of my head and the light is beginning to appear concerning Novell and CNA. Look forward to replies.

bkone,
I used the Novell 560 courseware kit and found it to be excellent. I must add though I also took a 5 day hands on course. Unlike some tests you will find that with Novell, ALL of the material covered on the exam is taken from one of the courseware books (in this case 560).

There can be some simulations on the exam. In 560 you would most likely need to be familiar with NWadmin, and be able to create or modify a user account. More likely you will see the "indentify the spot" type question where you will be required to mark and identify a certain area - i.e. "where would you click to create a user". Other than that the majority will be multiple choice, with some fill in the blanks, and possibly drag and drop.

Exam Esentials 5.5 is an excellent tool for preparing. The questions are very close to what you will see on the actual exam.

In regards to what Demigod mentioned you can bypass Novell course 565 Networking
Technologies, and use either N+ or an MCSE as a substitute. Just request the form from Novell and fax a copy of either cert along with the completed form, to add it towards your CNE.

Hope this little bit of info helps.

I'm with you - I'd take adaptive test over form test anyday!! If your just going the CNA route then 5.1 might be the way to go. Netware 6 is still very new so if you do your CNE within a year you can still do it with 5.1 and then you'll probably have to take the upgrade test for 6 to keep your cert current.

As for the study material I've ALWAYS used the courseware kit. If it's in there - it's testable. Just make sure you get the right kit for your class.

An FYI check with local training centers like Computer Data or New Horizons sometimes you can order the kit through them and it's been my experience that it costs less. You don't have to sign up for a class or anything like that.

Unfortunately I don't know of any other forums for Novell. Novell has one, but I think you have to be a CNA before you can join.

Well Good Luck and if you need any more info, you know where to find me!!

Hello, just bought the Novell's CNA Study Guide for NetWare 5 by IV David James Clarke.

I also have Exam Essentials 5.5 for the 50-639 exam. Just wondering what the difference is between the CNA and the CNE Course 560? The place I work has given us all access to mindleaders.com, it is an online learning thing, used a little bit for my CCNA but it is very brief. Anyways that is for Novell course 560 CNE. What else is a good reference for the exam and am I on the right track? Also forgot to mention I have a copy of Netware 5 which I will install and implement on my home network.

Thanks in advance.

There's no difference in the 560 exam for the CNA or CNE. You have to take the 560 exam to get your CNA, then that exam becomes part of your CNE track. You don't have to test again or anything.

Theres a brainbuzz.com/cramsession.com group of Novell boards thats way bigger than this and has direct Novell presence (youll see). It just isnt as homey as this though.

You can ask training questions on the Novell support forums. http://support-forums.novell.com/category/root.tpt
