| I kid you not!
Novell has just announced that current CNE5s can become MASTER CNE by just taking two exams - the Update to Netware6 and the Comptia IT Project+ - the same two exams that current Master CNE5s have to take to maintain their MCNE6 status.
Here is the letter they are sending out to current CNE5s:
>Attention NetWare 5 CNE:
>Have you considered elevating your >certification status to Master CNE
>but never had the time?
>Don't pass up this opportunity to add Master CNE to your credentials!
>Between June and December 2002, you can become a Master CNE by taking
>two courses and passing their associated >tests. Upgrading to NetWare 6
>and IT Project + are the only courses >needed to prepare a NetWare 5 CNE
>to become a Master CNE.
>Master CNE training gives you the knowledge and skills to offer the
>highest level of support for the >environments you work in. As a Master
>CNE, you are the multi-vendor, multi->solution specialist of the network
>industry.
>For your convenience, both courses are now >available on shopNovell at
>discounted prices:
>IT Project + Self-Study Kit Suggested >Retail Price US$495 ($396 on
>shopNovell)

| My two cents on this matter:
I had to take seven exams to attain my CNE and then four more to become MAster CNE. Now I have to take two more to remain current and become MCNE6. That's 13 exams as opposed to 8 with the new certification roadmap!
The new promo is great for CNEs but Novell should give something back to the Master CNEs who went throught the time and expense prior to the new requirements.
Maybe Novell should grant us a "SUPER CNE" certification?

| Noway!!!
Just 2 exams. I'll check it out.
However, many job don't required MCNE.

| It's true.
You just have to pass both exams before December 31, 2002. After that, you have to be a CNE 6 and do three exams to become Master CNE.
It's true that most jobs don't require it, but when it comes to promotion time, who do you think is going to get promoted first - the CNE or the Master CNE?

| I don't think this is a good idea...unless the Netware6 certification track includes the information covered in the Fundamentals of Internetworking test that was a core requirement for MCNE. This will degrade the certification a little bit. If you lower the knowledge requirements for a certification, then you have degraded the certification. I also don't think it is very fair to current MCNE's who had to work to acquire knowledge of other networking products and technologies to become MCNE's. Next thing you know, They'll be lowering the passing scores for these exams, too.
My 2 cents. | |

| Thank you for this info It really helped me.
PS Sometimes it helps to postpone your next test for a couple of months

I think its Chris Stone work. It isnt fair but its part of survival tactics to keep CNEs interested in both staying current and moving ahead. I think they will incur some loss of resolution of MCNE capabilities but whatever they see as necessary for rebuilding Novells place its probably better than having a dying cert. I thought it was strange that they are letting me test on Zen2 as my elective on 6/17 for my CNE5.x (still need nettech also though). Zen2 testing was supposed to cease in April.
