| My wife's office just closed and they gave her the old computer. Was on a Novell network. We take it home and we boot it up but it is looking to authenticate with the Novell server. I don't know anything about Novell, she can't even log on locally.
How can I bypass that and remove it for home use.
Any advice would be appreciated.

| What is the client OS? | |

| Try using a client remover program,
I would go to Downloads.com or go on google.com and search for a Novell client remover.
|
| I can't log on though. I just get to the Novell log on screen and it is looking for passwords and Trees. | |

| But what is the client OS? If its just Win9x then you can probably just cancel the login and go from there or boot into safe mode and uninstall the client from there. If its NT/2K or whatever then you'll need a local administrative login anyway, to start altering things. | |

| Sometimes if you put in garbage, it will ask again with a radio button click local computer only, click advanced and deselect the trees | |
|
| Sorry. The wife tells me it is W98 SE. We tried tocancel but to no avail.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks. | |

| Have you tried booting in to safe mode and removing the client from there? | |
|
| No, but that is a great idea. So W98 box, boot to Safe Mode...How do I delete the client from there. Is the client in the Programs folder. Sorry I haven't see what Novell looks like.
Thanks. | |

Boot in Safe Mode, open up Control Panel, Network, you can delete the Novell client from there.

| To remove the client, try going to Network properties and un-ticking the box that says Novell Client. If that doesn't work, simply check the box during login that says 'workstation only'. This will keep the client from trying to locate trees and servers and will only log you in to the workstation itself. |
