Hi, I am trying to install Novell 5.1 server that I got in the CNA NetWare 5.1 Study Guide from the Novell Press and it says "invalid media type reading drive C" when attempting to install it. I have created a 256MB partition and don't know what else to try, the pc has a 4G hard drive, 64MB RAM, and a P2 233 cpu.

Any help is appreciated, I will be using this server for testing purposes only so the specs don't need to be high.

OK, I tried another hard drive with the same results, I guess I can't use a 98SE boot disk to fdisk and make the 256MB partition is that correct?

I will see if I can dig up a DOS Boot Disk around here and try again, again any help is appreciated.

That error means you haven't actually partitioned the drive correctly or haven't formatted it.

You can use the Win98 boot disk to make the partition if you really want to but make sure you use FAT16 rather than FAT32.

However you will also need to make this partition a bootable DOS partition to act as a cold boot loader for NW5.1, so you will need a working copy of one or another flavour of DOS rather than just a boot disk. You won't be able to use a Win98 boot disk to make this DOS partition, so don't even try!!

goto http://bootdisk.com/ to get a dos bootdisk. Just make sure to remove everything from the autoexec.bat and config.sys except for the parts to load your CD..

I got pissed off, because I was building a server and client, and then didn't have the lan card drivers, and Novell couldn't detect it GRRRR!
