Thanks. | |

| Just run this for example.
This is the command
nwadmin
run this from the dos prompt.
C:\ being the drive you installed NW on.
c:\nwadmin | |

Pardon the direct question, but why dont you want to run ConsoleOne? Just wondering, is it the speed, or just that you need to get a particular task accomplished that C1 doesnt hit in the rev you have?
Dont take this the wrong way, I prefer NWAdmin, but the powers at Novell want C1 so
what is your reason to not hit the java??

| I've heard that Novell's going to drop ConsoleOne in favor of a browser interface. Has anyone else heard this? I think it's a great idea. A browser interface would be a lot faster, less of a bandwidth hog and truly platform independant. | |

| I am going to take my N+ on tuesday and I installed Netware 5 only to see it works.
I don't have any experience with it.

| Wow, my first post.
I'm certainly not certified, but I can tell you from six years of Netware admin that Console One sucks--literally. It is a resource hog and everyone would be well advised to simply unload it. Other experience I've had with Java is the same. It's a great concept but simply can't handle the requirements of being a platform for everything. Nwadmin rocks!, as anyone would tell you that had to do all that stuff before in bindery mode. I've also just finished setting up my first Win2k domain, and I can tell you Microsoft's approach to directory services is lame compared to Novell's. But as with most stuff from Microsoft, I'm sure the next version will have it right. If Novell is hooking up its wagon to Java's horse, we might be well advise to submit to darkforce and get that MSCE.

From my mentors - its never been the easy path to be a Novell admin. Take MS's MMC and how simple it is to snap in functions. With Novell, simple isnt the point up front - but moreso if you can do the job is what defines Novell administrators.
Novell has been hooked up with java for some time now. And ask anyone doing Zen3 or Certificate Server work if they get the job done. AD has nothing to do with living with ConsoleOne. And C1 isnt much compared to MMC as far as interfaces go, but it works. As for things Novell, use and do with as they provide or seek otherwise.

| You can copy all the files to run console one to your local hard drive and run it from there. I know this works. Try it.
