| If u are the Novell Product, just follow the manual. That's it very simple.
However, it required some planning before u can do it.
If u are not certified on Novell Product, I suggest not to do it. | |

| What NOS are you running now on the App and file server?
try Novell Knowledgebase

| if you have a NetWare server already up and running then all you need to do is download and install the latest Novell Client for your workstations. for Win9x it's Client 3.30 and for NT/2000 it's 4.8. if you are going to be running ZfD3 (ZENworks for Desktops 3) then you will also need to get sp1 for those same clients.
you can do a standard install with the clients and get probably all you need but if you are running a PureIP environment (i.e. runnin IP ONLY on your NW5.x servers) you may as well do a custom install with the clients and remove IPX/SPX.
is that what you mean?
if not, then maybe you'd like to install a NetWare server and get rid of you NT servers? and then do the client install?
we're here for you...

Here is a real basic overview - that doesnt take hardware specs etcetera into account, the other members are really correct in that theres mucho to know, but heres the simple stuff anyway (really REALLY basic):
1) Goto www.novell.com/download and get your 98 and nt4 based Client32's,
w9x33e.exe and wnt48e.exe. Burn them to CD.
2) Take the more powerful of your 2 present servers, pop in a NetWare 5 or 5.1 CD and boot to it.
3) Just for sake of not reading anything at all and blowing up your current network - like it doesnt matter anymore, follow the steps and create the Caldera DR-Dos partition at minimum 50meg + DRAM size.
Better yet create a MSDOS 6.22 partition, FDISK it for 50+meg + DRAM, add 30 files and buffers to autoexec - no memory management.
4) if you did DR-DOS, continue, else reboot and select to keep present boot partition (or similar verbatim)
5) follow the instructions, and add whatever disk space is available outside of Dos and create a netware partition.
6) Details aside, Select "Create a new Tree" and give it a name. Play with the GUI and create an "O" off the tree root. Install the server into the "O" (Org Object).
7) Give an Admin password whenever that comes up. login when it say so .Admin."O" - put in the name of the Org for "O"
8) Go thru various disk and lan driver stuff. Install both IP and IPX - IPX will work if you get IP wrong.
9) Select default product options. Continue install. follow through various stuff, end install, rejoice at the beeping almighty server console. be patient. Alt+Esc to toggle through loaded screens.
10) At the aftermath. Pop your w9x33.exe CD into a 98 machine, NT is just adding complexity for now. Execute it and barring details, select NDS (dont screw that up) and your Tree.
11) That will blow off any MS crap and prepare you for paradise (joke, so laugh now). Reboot, Expect a Novell client Splash screen and a login popup. Login as Admin. Actually your authenticating RSA style! None of that Kereberos stuff here! (joke but true, dont laugh).
12) you get a login then your smokin. Follow suit with your second server, select to install it into an existing NDS tree (your new one). If that goes well you now for the most part have NDS replication = redundancy of the database.
13)Install the Client32 4.8 (wnt48e.exe) on NT boxes.
14) Well thats it in a nutshell, minus a terabyte of whatever that you should and will tap into. Hit the Novell site, knowledgebase is great. If you have the NetWare CD's in the appropriate format use the docs on them = fast, else hit the docs off the Novell support site.
15) All joking aside, thats the scoop. Email me if you like.
