| Just passed final exam Service and Support (50-658). Here's what I can tell you about it..
>> Difficulty
I can see how this exam would be disastrous for many people (it almost was for me ). The exam was difficult because of the depth of questions it presented.
>> Format
69 questions from the bowels of Novell. A few 'free text', a couple drag and drop, a LOT of pick the best 3 of these 6 answers, a lot of NDPS, some print queue, a LOT of token ring and ethernet questions, a LOT of cable media questions - just a lot of damn questions altogether
>> Specific Questions
You're going to hate this, but I can't really remember any . The comments that have been made about Exam Essentials containing many of the questions seems right - I used the limited (locked) version and do remember some 'like' questions in the real exam.
>> Preparation Ideas
Let me qualify first that I have a problem (well many problems, but this one relates to study ). I am the king of procrastination - I allow myself on average 2-3 weeks for each exam prep. However, I end up doing study for only the last 2 days.
With that therapy out of the way, let me say you really need to be conversant in the entire exam criteria Novell outlines. This means, after you have read the cramsessions or whatever, then find third party info on the internet to read more on the subject. Then read some more - get some depth to your knowledge. The exam will ask questions about the subjects you studied, but often in such a way that you need to have knowledge 'beyond' the cram.
Hey, write your own personal mini whitepaper on each selection criteria. Don't copy off other crams. Then compare your knowledge to the other parties’ knowledge.
>> Conclusion
Most people have stopped reading by now , sorry for the length.
I gave this subject very slight regard, until it was too late. Couple that with poor preparation techniques and well . . you might not be so lucky as me.
Good luck, I'm off to the Microsoft posts now | |

| Congrats cybatek. I know what you mean about M$. It really is an inferior technology, but hey, M$ knows how to market and that's why they have the market share that they do today. | |

That depends on if you been cracking server cases day in and out or not.
Some people dont get lots of hardware hands on.
I am taking S&S on Monday (if I pass D&I tommorow), I am dedicating 1 day to the Student manual. We'll see how easy it is. I have built or upgraded over 50 servers from 3.12 to 5.1 and nearly 500 workstations. That doesnt include hooking up stuff ready to run out of the cardboard box.
I'll stick a #2 Phillips in my pocket for good luck. |
