| Is Novell still testing for NetWare 3.xx? I
took a NetWare 3.xx CNA class about 4 years ago when I started my current job and I took the test but failed. I learned enough to use it at work everyday, but I never did get Certified. The instructor said that they were not going to certify anyone in a few months, so after I failed the test I decided not to take it again. (I was starting a new job and learning everything, so that took up most of my time)
Well, we still use it (Along with 4.10,NT,&2000), and it is what I know best, so if Novell still tests for this, could someone tell me. Thanks!
|
| You can always go to the Novell site to see it.
But I think is NO, Novell is planning for NW6.
Are u still using NW3.xx or NW5?
| Matt1999 2001-04-08, 9:20 pm |
| Yes, we are still using NW3.XX on one of our servers. We also have a NW4, NT, and 2000 but NW3.XX is our primary server
It appears that test # 50-130 is for NW3.xx, but I just wanted to see if I was reading it right and if so, does anyone know of any free practice tests for it?
Thanks | |

| Any suggestions for study material?
Most books seem to be out of print and there is not much info online about this test.
I have a NetWare Reference book for 3.12 but it's not geared towards the test.

| Hi Matt,
Sybex has a book that might help. Their catalogue number for it is 1820-8. The title is The CNE Study Guide by David Clarke. It's quite good. We have three CNE's on staff with NetWare 3 certification and one more completing the path from 'bottom to top' to get CNE3, IntrenetWare CNE and CNE5 in sequence.
If you don't go all the way through and complete the CNE5, you cannot use the CNE designation any more however. Novell set upgrade standards that require the NW5 level for all current CNE's to retain their certifications. The deadline was last August 31, although I believe they extended that to Sept. 30.
We still have a reasonable number of clients with NW3, mostly with small networks (up to 20 or so users). It still does very well in small installations, and it is VERY stable.
HTH.

| Thanks for the reply Bill...
I went to Sybex and looked and found a book similar to the one you were talking about. It is the CNA Study Guide by David James Clarke. (CNA is as far as I am wanting to go at this time)
I went to E-bay and there just happened to be a copy for sale. 30 more minutes left and it's only $7.99 + $4 s/h .
So, I will probably get it. Are the Clarke practice tests any good?
Anyone else with any more info about this test?
Thanks, Matt. | |

| Hey Matt,
We tried the Clarke tests and were not particularly impressed. We had much better results with the Exam Essentials tests. For Novell tests, they are the best.
Look at: www.certify.com

| Well, I'm following your suggestions Bill.
I bought the CNA Study Guide. Then, while I have been waiting for the book to come in the mail I have been using the Exam Essential prep test software to see what I know and what I don't know.
I'm ready for the book to come in so I can look some of this stuff up!
Also, for those who are interested, there is a web page that has a 3 page summary of information that may be on this test:
http://students.db.erau.edu/~malor/cna_frame.html
Bill, i've been trying to find out as much info about this test as I can so I can be prepared. I have read some posts that people have used the Big Red testing software from
www.stsware.com. Do you know if it is any good, and is it worth getting if I already have the Exam Essentials practice tests?
Thanks for your help! | |

| Sorry Matt, I can't help you there. I haven't seen the Big Red testing software so I don't know how valuable it might be.

| STSware aka Big Red was nice for nw5 tests. great sims of nwadmin and good drag-and-drops unlike EE. however, i don't know about nw3... give em a shout.. but i'd bet that EE is good enough if used with your book(s) and the real server. | |

| I took the test last night and after 15 questions, PASSED!
I missed two, though. But that's ok.
Novell web site Progess Chart says the last date to take this test is in July and the last day to be used for certification is in December. So does this mean I will not have the CNA status after December? Or just not be able to apply it towards CNE?
Thanks for everyones help!

| Way to go Matt1999. Tell me, do you have any pearls of wisdom to share with us? Did you find any freebies on the 'net that helped with your studies and the exam?
I have a copy of Netware unleashed by SAMS publishing but I fear that it is a little advanced for the exam, any pointers? Anyone?
| Matt1999 2001-05-11, 1:21 pm |
| Thanks Andy.
For the 050-130 test it was very difficult to find anything for this exam. I thought that it would be easier to find something on an exam that was so old rather than a newer one, but I was wrong.
I would highly recommend Exam Essentials, it helped a lot! I did post a link in this thread with a web site for a quick overview of the test. Also, as posted before, I found a book on E-bay for $7.99 + $4 s/h.
The Exam Essentials site has a live on-line test with about 30 questions on it. It's good for a freebee!
Are you thinking about taking the 050-130 test? Looking for info on the internet, it appeared to me that no one else had even thought about taking this test in the last 2 years! hehe..

| Matt,
Per your earlier query, you will still hold CNA after the test expires, you will not be able to use it in the CNE track once it has expired.
So, if you are going for CNE, you will have to complete before the test expires.
Novell doesn't expire certs UNLESS you do not keep up with the 'continuing certification requirements' as posted on their web site.
I still hold CNA2, CNA3, and CNA4 even though these cret exams have all retired.
To keep my CNE current, I had to complete an upgrade exam last year. They typically give you six months notice of upgrade requirements and typically, they consist of a single exam.

| Just curious,
How long does it take to receive your certificate? Is it possible for me to check on the status?

| I have the Big Red from STS and EE5.5. Personally I like EE5.5 best and it costs $30 less.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions, IM me and I will answer back.

Hi Matt,
In most cases it has taken from 4 to 6 weeks to receive our certificates although Novell says 15 days in the US. (We're in Canada.)
If you are currently certified, you can use your ID and pin # to get on the CNA web site and check your status. Go here:
http://cnenet.novell.com/cna/
and login. Then go to the Personal Information Management selection on the access bar to your left. It is self explanatory from there.
If this is your first Novell certification, you can email to:edcustomer@novell.com
and ask them what the status is of your certification.

| Thanks Bill,
Come to find out, I haven't signed the agreement form yet. I knew there was one to sign, but no one mentioned it at the testing center so I thought I might have signed the agreement 4 years ago when I first took this test. One kinda cool thing I found out today by going to the Novell web site, I took this test EXACTLY 4 years ago from the day I took it last time. I took the test on 5/10/97 and 5/10/01 . Wow! |
