Just a quick note to let anyone who is planning on writing the CNA 5 (050-639) Exam how the test went.

I contacted Novell and they settled the adaptive/non-adaptive debate (at least for this exam):

"Mr. Barnes -

Once a test becomes adaptive, it will remain an adaptive exam.

Novell Education

dB"

As for the exam itself, everyone said it would be very easy and they were right. However, that does not imply that you do not need to know what you're doing.

For resources, I read the Exam Cram twice, and then used Exam Essentials 5.5 until I scored high consistently. Whenever EE is mentioned, people think dumps...but when you get a question wrong and you read the explanation and try it in Novell, it helps a lot so it's a good resource. I couldn't find any accurate practice tests/questions on the usual sites I visit so I stuck with the above.

The exam is 15-25 questions, adaptive (can't go back). There are two survey's at the end (after you pass/fail) that you MUST complete in order to get your CNA designation. The first is a whopping 45 questions on how you value Novell (15 minutes max.) and the second is a 3 question agreement that you say "yes" to.

I scored 663 (520's a pass) and it said I got every question right (not sure how the scoring works) and it took me literally about 5 minutes. At the same time, don't underestimate it because there are some test pools that are much harder than the one I got. 85% of the questions on mine were in EE but 15% weren't so know your stuff

Congratulations Macphisto, good job on that exam. I took the 50-653 exam myself, those adaptive exams make me nervous. Probably not a reasonable fear, but they give me the jitters.
Welcome to the few, the proud, the Novell certified crowd!!!!

Yeah I know what you mean. All of my certs (including my MCSE) have all been non-adaptive. Everyone said that this exam was easy but I wanted to make sure so I studied hard for it.

Is there any benefit to getting my CNA 5.1 now or should I stick with 5.0? The only reason I went 5.0 instead of 5.1 is because that's the Exam Cram I had. I'm not sure if I'll puruse my CNE or not...I know it's within reach but I'm not sure if the industry (specifically in Canada) is headed that way...what do you think?

I am persuing the 5.1 track primarily because the company that I work for uses that version. I can't speak for Canada, but here in the U.S. a lot of governmental agencies as well as a lot of private industry is using Novell Netware. I am going to finish my CNE before I start studying the M$ stuff. I doubt that I will persue any certs with M$. There are just too many others there already.

Good luck to you on whatever track you decide to follow. Congrats again on passing the CNA.
