OK, I know I'm not alone on this one. I have one exam left until the CNE is done. It's Adv Admin. I've got to choices. Take the 5.1 Adv. or the 5.0 adv. My CNA is 5.1, all the other tests are the most current tests. I just want to be done.

Which test would you take. One where you have the Novell course book for 5.1 which is 600 Pgs. then wade thru all the prep test questions, or one where you have the clark notes, where it's only 200 pgs, and wade thru all the prep test questions.

I know one is adaptive, and one is not. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Chris

Conrats in advance.

I post some tips from my exam study tonite (which will probably be Friday morning your time).

I 'chickened out' and did the straight 5 version of the exam. Either way the volume of content always had me worried. The concept of doing a probable 60 odd vs. 15 odd questions seemed to present an easier decision on which one to do.

I am in the same situation kinda. I passed 645 5 Admin (only 10 items/questions) but when my boss signed me up for Advanced Admin it was for 5.1. I am using the STSWare for 654 AAdmin, and I am finding it tough, plus I am under time constraints. I could just buy the 640 5 AAdmin STSWare and I am sure it would be easier.

Sounds like you have the 5.1 AA white book also. I need to pass the remaining 5 tests asap, cause I have a fat promotion waiting for me. But I am gonna take the harder route and do the 5.1 test. Why, because having the fat book and suffering through it is going to make me a better CNE when its all done with. In setting up and administrating 5.0 and 5.1 at work, 5.1 is the best yet in my opinion.

From my 575 D&I class I also have both texts for 5 and 5.1. Again I am weighing the outcome, the 5.1 has to be better in the long run.

Funny enough I also got stuck mid point on 780 ZenWorks - both revs of manuals!

Good luck whichever way you go!!!

So much for finding my exam notes oh well I'll have to go by my (short) memory.

Queue Printing - remember no NDPS stuff in this one. Polish up on all aspects of Queue printing

NSS - Mmmm. Yes. There are some very distinct components to NSS. Memory them and there interconnections

SMS - Vaguely remember a question about this, and know the simple rules defining FULL, INCREMENTAL, DIFFERENTIAL

DNS / DHCP - at least know the command to start them from the console. Be able to spell it right too. (free text answer)

NDS Security - I was really worried about this (computers can sense fear - and they don't like it). Take some time to read all you can to understand this aspect well. At least know IRF / blocking

NDS Maintenance - i recall memorising a 12 or 13 point trouble shooting thing that you can use in NDS Manager (yeah I know, I should cut down on the technical jargon). Don't think I got a single question though.

Other Components (Groupwise etc) - brushed up on the basic components just in case. You know they wont be too detailed a question, but you'll kick yourself if you miss a simple one because you didn't take an hour to review them.

FTP - Name space required

Fasttrack - What if you get a sim on this. have you ever seen it running?

Packet Stuff - I seem to recall the little report bit at the end of the exam saying that a LIP is not those things beneath my nose.

If you are not fortunate enough to have the offical courseware book, just go to the web site, print off the exam criteria (and there are a lot of them), and write your half page explanation for each (no looking at your notes) - then check your info vs. knowledge base info. If you cant do that, maybe you're not ready

Oh well, not exactly a brain dump, but it should get you thinkin
