| I'm taking Exam 639 (5 Admin) in a few days...is this the way to go or should I take Exam 653 (5.1 Admin) afterwards? Also, I heard that 653 is pretty hard, true or false?

| Doing both NW5 admin exams seems a bit extreme. If you really want to punish yourself why not do all 3 strains of the NW5 admin exam (50-639 and 50-645 and 50-653)

| Adaptive? Depends on the time of month I think. 
There is one urban legend that shows the exams go through cycles. After a given number of exams, Novell switch to the next format (i.e. Adaptive / Non Adaptive). True? I don't know.
I did 639 because I read 653 was non-adaptive. I don't care how 'easy' the exam might be - I dont like the idea of sitting 60 odd questions when I could sit 15.
My 639 was adaptive, but later I found 2 of my collegues who had sat 653 also had adaptive! (btw 1 passed one failed - he got a lot of NDPS questions)

| Always check with the Novell site before any registration for the exam.
Also, 5.0 and 5.1 are similar. As long as you study everything that required to know. U will passed. I find the "A" is very easy, if u know the NW.

| Wow, that's nuts! I thought that it was adaptive because all of my friends were saying it was and then a girl I know said she got the non-adaptive one so I thought I would make sure. I agree with you when it comes to writing a 60+ question cert or a 15+ one...why bother with the long one. Oh well, I'll spend some extra time on the material just in case. Thanks for your quick reply

| I took the 5.1 test, failed, and it was not adaptive. I have taken the 4.11 test (adaptive) and I prefer adaptive. | |

| I took (2/13/01) 5 Admin test 645, which I believe is rev 1.02 or 1.1. I used STSWare rev 1.01 for 639 as well as the matching student manual. VUE automagically signed me up for 645 and it was adaptive. |
