| Hi, I started to study the sybex book for the this exam only as when i finished i realized the book said 50-636!! it had been retired for 2 years.. i tried the keystone videos.. 4 hours of a schmuck doing nothing and returned those things.. ive received my cne 5.1 book so ive gone back to working on my core but if anyone has any tips on material please!! let me know!! | |

| you will study mostly winNT4 for this test. i used the novell white books and 75% of it was based on NT stuff... user accounts, groups, domains, trusts, shares, ntfs permissions, share permissions, the registry, etc. you could conceivably pick up some NT workstation and server study books/guides and pass the test.. but, there's a fair amount of NDS for NT (the product) specific stuff that you will need to know. so, if you can't find the white books, see about getting a demo of the product and play with it.

| well the book for test 50-636, the older test, has most of the same objectives. actually it just has more. I dont think the information has changed. Im gonna use Testout! software i think as my company just purchased some and should arrive tomorrow i believe so I will try that. Thanks for your help and I think im gonna try and get a used white book.. I have the one for CNA 5.1 and i thought it was pretty good | |

| test out should be a good start. at least it's something. all i used was the white book and exam essentials. but i did sit the class. however, i installed NDS for NT on my server and played with that... i highly recommend doing that. best kinda study tool there is.

| This exam struck me as one of the most out of date one's that Novell has.
When you consider WIN2k and Active Directory, and Novell Account Manager aka eDirectory aka NDS corporate edition - it really does seem limited.
Yes, I do know there are still a couple of NT4.0 networks out there in the forest  of 2000 servers, but except for this exam, I have always found Novell to be much more up to date! | |

| i agree with you a little there cybatek. but i think there are more nt4 networks than you assume. but still, this is a little out of date since eDirectory -- or whatever it's called today -- is available for so many platforms... it's funny that this exam hasn't gone bye-bye.

i looked on novell's site but couldn't find any demos or full product of NDS for NT. i borrowed a copy we had at work that we weren't using. i'd love to offer you a copy but i am certain that's not going to be legal... 
it looks like the self study kit may include it. quote:

| I agreed, too.
Most small business and no-IT company prefer MS House all the way. They find it is easy to hire MCSE and maintained by them.
NW is more complex and difficult to deal with. Sometimes, I believe that a CNE feel very difficult to deal with the system without the help from senior Tech...
Experience is very important for CNE! | |

I have the CNE 5.1 book from novell press and the content is all there i just am having trouble putting it into a diagram.. I have spent 2 hours so far and have 16 pages of notes.. yes they are not refined or anything but the book gives like half the lay out and then just starts off with the information so im having trouble associating where tasks exactly are.. I know this is a huge thing to ask but any help would be great!!
