I got the NW6 beta kit running - its way cool. Just cleaner looking is the first thing you notice, besides all the extra goodies, the Portal is way beefed up. One thing I really liked alot is running a DSTrace from Portal. No more insane command line torture. Just click the options you want to trace and its totally graphical. Its the most real fun I have had yet with Novell. I cant wait to get some into our real network.
The online docs were sufficient to get me through most of the goodie configuration. Its a healthy jump up from NetWare 5.1 but feels pretty recognizable - but not a mild upgrade by any means. I got some bugs. Dont know if its Beta bugs or my underpowered Celeron 333Mhz (384meg ram). I cant authenticate to ConsoleOne at the server console. Wierd also you get all NSS volumes and NDS 8.5 no matter what. I dont even have any NDS8 nor NSS in use - so it not going to be all fun and games. Its love at first install though! |
