50-653 Admin 5.1 Passed!
|
|
|
| Well took the 653 5.1 version of the exam today. Passed, but not by much. I thought the form test would let you go back to change answers but, no dice. Still had fill in the blanks, multiple choice, and simulator questions. Atleast there were 67 questions. I had some breathing room for wrong answers. I used books from the 639 exam and Leapit.com course. On to Advanced Admin next I guess..

| Roade,
Can u tell me the major different between 5.0 and 5.1?
Since most study guide outside is 5.0, how do you gain the knowledge for the 5.1?
Is the exam difficult? How is the format?

| Took the Novell Course at Leapit, bought the book 800 pages worth. The guy talks you learn, take tests after each chapter.
Setup 3 user version of netware 5 here and practiced with Netware Administrator, Utils, Console One, Filer, all the guts and glory.
Used the Exam Essentials 5.1 Took 653 test all questions twice 388 of them. Used the hide once feature. Took all the other tests 645, 639 compared questions, all helped.
Used the Brainbuzz site cram session for 5.1 to locate differences. Looked on Novell site for exams 639, 645, 653, and compaired objectives. Basicly I figured there would be more questions geared in the ZEN direction and there was. Focused on the 653 questions in EE took what I learned in Leapit, also used the Netware 5 CNA book from Dorothy Cady which really covered it all not in too much detail. Studied I think total time 120hrs. I was expecting better results but hey, I'll take what I can get. I would rather get a lower score on a NEW test than a higher score on an OLD test that's doomed to die anyway. Besides I thought more questions would give a bigger margin for error in case there were things I hadn't covered. 5.1 Uses NDS version 8. New features are listed on Novells site. Brain buzz also helps look for creamsession on 5.1.
Now questions.. There were 67 alot of Syntax, mapping, NDS Object, Definitions, a bunch of ZEN- Printer, Application object, polices, workstation, user, etc, remote user, mapping god the list goes on. Good news though. The EE DOES cover a good deal of those questions. If you know all the material for 639, brush up on the 5.1 newer stuff, and use 653 questions as a base your in good shape. I bet 50% of the test I took was syntax, mapping and rights, who gets what and how they relate to each other. Rest was Zen, commands, and login scripts.
I can't be more specific, there were to me so many questions and I was so tense, when I left I was in a fog! Did pass though and my strategey worked. I see the Advanced Admin has 2 tests now. I'm going to employ the same things I did here and go for it!
Good Luck on whichever way you choose to go. In anycase EE 5.1 really helped me out. | |

| way to go roade. i like to hear of people putting forth the good effort to really learn the material instead of relying on people's brain dumps and what not.
anyway, i just wanted to mention that something which REALLY helped me do well on my Adv. Admin was setting up the server at my house and really working over the FTP, HTTP and other options... however, i took the adv. admin for 5 (not 5.1).
good luck.
