Netware 5.0 installation on 13.6 gig HD
|
|
|
| Can anyone tell me how to format a 13.6 gig Hd on a Pentium 166mhz computer and get the Bios to recognize the full potential of my Drive. I cant use EZ-Bios because during the
install of EZ-Bios it wants to fdisk and format the drive into equal partions and only letting you use 8Gigs max. It also partitions non-DOS partitions and you cant install Netware5.0 without a DOS active partion. I will tell you that Netware 5.0 is SWEET and CONSOLEONE is really nice.

| You might check the website of the manufacturer of the Motherboard and see if they have an update for the system BIOS which would support large harddrives. Other wise you could probably use FDISK to partition the drive or possibly Partion Magic.
Hope this helps,

| By the way, do you know if Novell 5 will run with AMD processors? | |
|
| birdlinski do you have a quantum hdd by any chances ? My computer is also a p166. Like Freddy said, i have found an ontrack manager for my hdd there and it detects at full size now.

| use DOS 6.22 install disks to create ONE partition that's at least the size of the amount of RAM you have -- add about 20 or so MEG to be safe. install DOS into that partition. then install the CD ROM drivers and install NW5. netware MAY or MAY NOT see the rest of the disk independently of the BIOS. if not, find that flash upgrade. i wouldn't use any drive overlay software.
you want to see ConsoleOne really sweet? get the latest download of it from novell (http://support.novell.com)... much better than what shipped (at least better than what shipped my version from class).
i have nw5 running on an AMD K6 266 overclocked to 300. runs like a champ. (128 RAM).

| Thanks Chunder, I was wondering if the AMD processors would work. The installation instructions say pentium all over them and I didn't want to build another AMD box if it wasn't going to work. Now all I need is a copy of dos to install and I will be all set.
Thanks again.

| Thanks Paulel for the info. I like the AMD's so I am going to stay with it when I build my server. Should be up and running by the end of the month. Thanks again.

| the nw5 install cd is bootable (hardware must support it -- BIOS and CDROM drive) and has dr-dos (caldera dos) on it... well, mine does. you may be able to use this the same as ms-dos like i mentioned above. i didn't mess with it enough cuz i didn't have to worry about the bios/drive size like you do -- and i actually like (ie, more familiar with) MS-DOS better.
