Identifying Network Classes
| Hi All,
I subscribe to QOD and came across this question.
What is the Network ID of 120.192.0.1 if it has been assigned its default subnet mask?
I answered 120.192, which is wrong. The correct answer is 120. And here is the explanation given by QOD: 120.192.0.1 is a class A IP address, therefore the default subnet mask for this IP address is 255.0.0.0, also known as /8, which means that the first 8 bits - ie the first octet - are the network bits and constitute the network ID.
How do you know that 120.192.0.1 is a Class A address? | |

| Got it thanks. (in Class A address the 1st bit of the 1st octet is always off, therefore range is 1 - 126 for the 1st octet) |
