| To my knowledge, Cisco doesn't release this info. They do put out a # on how many total certifications they've awarded but I haven't seen the latest figures on this.
One thing I can guess on is that the CCNA is definitely one of the fastest growing certs. A lot of people are focusing on the Cisco world right now, so you're in the right place!

| The quote that you saw from Don Field reads, "Overall, more than 700,000 certifications have been issued by Cisco since the inception of its program."
This is the total # of all Cisco certs that I mentioned in my post, not the # of CCNA's floating around. If there were that many CCNA's, it would be pretty over-saturated and have very little value.
CompTIA does release specific #'s for individual tests; for example, Security+ and Server+ both past 10,000 within the past year. I know Microsoft has some #'s out there as well, but you won't find anything more detailed than 700,000 total for all Cisco certs. (of course everyone will go looking now and prove me wrong )

| I'm pretty sure cisco has it on their website, as I searched for it a few weeks ago.
ccna=300k
ccnp=100k
ccie=10k
2 ccie= like 300 ( im not sure)
3 or more ccie level certs = 86

| Dough!!! Darn you zxmjkxz! I was so sure that they didn't release this info; maybe they changed direction and decided to do it. I need proof! | |

| skysky32 - the old 640-607 was actually easier than the current 640-801. If you struggled with that one, you won't find the 640-801 to be any better. You need to be a subnetting freak and know all the topics solid before you think about taking it.
sdennison - You're right that an entry level certification (which even though it's difficult, the CCNA is only entry level) alone will not get you the job. CCNP on the other hand may be enough to get you the CCNA level job without any experience. Having the right contacts within a company who will know that you're right for the job certainly makes a difference as well. Start somewhere (helpdesk, volunteer, cableing, etc) and if you excel at it, word will travel.
One other thing to keep in mind: several job projections show the overall job growth by 2010 to be 10%. In comparison, IT job growth by 2010 is projected at 40%. We're potentially headed for a shortage which is a good scenario for the workers. (This based on the USA)

No. Cisco maintains the same pass rate for CCNA. They have modified the test to try to weed out cheaters, and the topics have changed a bit, but if you know the required material you will pass.

Hi Johnaspen
didnt struggled with 640-607 just that never spent time on it. well u see i start to study for the exam 1mth before it so i guess is not enough. as for the640-801 the format is still the same only that some protocal cisco when into detail i guess e.g OSPF and EIGRP just to name afew and ya i agree that in CCNA now they are really into subnetting.
I like to ask if u guy know of any other good book/software that is good to use in getting really for CCNA. Do u guy think that by reading the CCNA study guide by Cisco press is good enough?? pls help me how to get really for the CCNA exam, cant affort to fail it again.
And johnaspen u are right, but the projected IT workers need in singapore here is abt 10k by the year 2010, that one reason why i am working so hard now on getting CCNA and CCNP. i thinking of MCSE becase alot of people say that CCNA and CCNP is of a better value if u also hold a MCSE is that true.
Thanks for your time guys

| Interesting to see from zxmjkxz's link what parts of the world CCIE's are concentrated in. Barbados is looking pretty good for any CCIE's out there that want to move, you wouldn't have any competition! Of course the local beach resort would probably care less that you're a CC-whatever. At least you could say that you're the only CCIE in the country. | |
