| Ive had my CCNA for over a year now and I haven't gotten one step closer to getting a job where I actually use it. Granted I'm currently employed in IT as a technician, but I still don't have any real world Cisco exp. I was wondering would going for my CCNP help me in being able to get a job working with cisco equipment, or will employers see it more like "wow u have ur ccnp, but no real exp? NEXT"?
I considering investing some money in the near future on a ccnp lab, but id like to make sure im not blowing possibly thousands of dollars when it wont help me with my venture.
thanks in advance

| Hire a research company to call some corporations and get some feedback as to what they are looking for in a new employee.
The other way is to look at the vacancies advertised locally. See what the average firm is asking for. Sometimes companies follow a trend in their job requirements rather than getting a person with the job requirements that are actually aligned to the specific company.
For instance, they ask for MCSE persons, but the job does not entail MCSE functions and sometimes does not pay MCSE money. They are just following a trend in the market and asking for what is hot.
So certify yourself in what is currently hot that (of course) you are interested in.
On the other hand if you definately only want to work on Cisco equipment, then yeah doing the CCNP would help you there. Since you would be first choice over the other CCNA persons applying for the job.
Where you live also has an effect on the need for your skills. ie. In certain places, Cisco, may not be well known, so people aren't looking for Cisco employees. |
