I have just passed the ccna intro exam and will be taking the next one in a month or two. I was told that it's a better idea to go straight for a ccie, instead of ccnp before ccie. What do people on here think is the better route, and how much harder and lengthier each one is?? Tha k you very much, I do appreciate all responses.

it all depends on how much cisco hands on experience you have and what area you want to specialise in.

Personally i think either CCNP or CCSP is a good option if you do deal with cisco everyday and want to learn more.

Don;t think going straight to CCIE is a good idea as there are many that has worked with cisco for more than 10 years that still failed CCIE lab.

After looking around I agree, cisco recommends going through ccnp first. Thanks for the reply

90% of people who go for the CCIE lab test fail first time. They say it takes 4-5 times to pass on average so each run before that should be treated like a practice run.

There are only 12000 CCIE's in the world. Hell this thing is harder to get than a medical/Doctorate degree and it should be more valued. It takes years and years of dedication and study.

I would go CCNP first. It is still hard to get.

CCIE is only if you know that you want to stay in the networking business for the rest of your life and you want to be earning good money.
